Woodford Buckskins

Sold recently

Chase 175
Bulldog 2011
Bas Bow 20/20
Bas Shadow le

If you look on ebay there a nice set of Salix pads and the Bradbury S500 in the 39-55 pound market

There the ayrtek pads which look nice and the Bulldog ones as well and then there Asads SS onsomble to have a look at.

Oh forgot H4l they have some rather striking soft goods.

Depends on your budget as well

My budget is about £35, hence me not getting flextech 5000's..
I was looking at the SS ones, but don't know whether theyre worth it, and the new adidas ones

ok

recently had

chase 175 pro (there too bulky)
hunts county clipper (my top tip cheapish and perfectly padded not to much just right and light)
Puma are good but too expensive and no better than a smaller brand

I would look around io have seen a blank set and a pair of gloves for 25 pound on ebay which look very good

I picked up a used pair for £15 on here, would used not be any good to you? A lot of bargains to be had then..Paddy had some V Sports ones, which were very similar in design - yes, they were used, but you can't go far wrong at £12!!

They are definitely very good and offer test quality protection, well they are top of the SS range so can't be bad

Newbery SPS,
Bradbury,
M&H,

I'll have to check for more, no SS or Puma.

Both look good, personal preference I guess if you are buying off ebay, slightly different styles though :) - or I guess you could wait and see what Mike has to offer, sure that they will be good quality - also the M&H Pads were highly rated by Wisden I think, but it's your choice in the end I guess... 8)
Title: Re: Pads
Post by: mattw on February 21, 2011, 10:59:40 PM
I'm not a keeper, but I've always prefered Puma keeper stuff. It looks very lightweight and good quality and if they're anything like their batting pads or gloves then they will be superb.
Title: Re: Pads
Post by: rp27 on February 21, 2011, 11:06:13 PM
Arghhh, i dont know what to do! I like both, and they seem reasonably priced for both, but i also like the SS ones. I dont know whether there's any point getting the 4000 flextechs or not either, i can't really afford the 5000's prces and don't like this years puma flextechs anyway...

rp, my offer still stands for my 5000's :)

I have 5000's which I've used, let me see what is out in the garage.
Title: Re: Pads

What about going to your local cricket shop and try some on etc?
Title: Re: Pads
Post by: rp27 on February 21, 2011, 11:11:01 PM
Thats my problem, my local cricket shop is boundary sports, and they have next to nothing in the way of keeping pads. So i havent actually tried any of them :/
Title: Re: Pads
Post by: mattw on February 21, 2011, 11:13:26 PM
Ah fair enough, Boundary sports hasn't got the best selection in there. You could email them to see if they could get some stock in for you to try out. They seem like nice guys in there and are usually fast with their responses.
Title: Re: Pads
Post by: rp27 on February 21, 2011, 11:15:55 PM
I spoke to the guy last week, and he said he was having the 2011 gray nics stuff in, but that didnt really help me you see>
Title: Re: Pads
Post by: mattw on February 21, 2011, 11:23:58 PM
Ah right, last time I was in there which was at the start of the month he said that they were expecting all of their stock in by mid-feb. Obviously not...

Well Hawk do their own pads which look pretty good and they're not far from Birmingham (near stourbridge) http://www.hawkcricket.com/Details.cfm?ProdID=157&category=9 (http://www.hawkcricket.com/Details.cfm?ProdID=157&category=9). So if you're willing to travel to them you could try them on...

(bit off topic) Did he say when they will have the grey nics stuff in? As I would like to look at their new bags...
Title: Re: Pads
Post by: rp27 on February 21, 2011, 11:26:06 PM
I think he said by the end of this week, and thanks, i'll have a look. I'm tempted to go to uzisports as it's not far according to google maps!
Title: Re: Pads
Post by: rp27 on February 21, 2011, 11:27:05 PM
oh, and why's their keeping kit the same as SS's :S
Title: Re: Pads
Post by: mattw on February 21, 2011, 11:32:51 PM
Okay cheers.

I'm not sure why they are the same, I could be wrong - but I guess they could use the same supplier and get them shipped over.

I did have some Hawk (batting) pads and they were very good quality, but unfortunately I had to take them back as I couldn't get the right amount of money for some Puma pads I bought and as they had been used I couldn't send them back. So I exchanged them for some thigh guards and a few extras and all of their softs are of a very good standard.

There was someone from the Birmingham area who was planning on going down to Uzisports from this forum somewhere, so you could work out a lift with them.

the 5000's are quality pads but I don't think you would be able to wear them low, I had to wear mine behind the tongue of my shoe, it all depends where you find them comfortable. looks wise, i think they're top 2 and on par with the Kookaburra Kahuna ones. (the traditional looking ones) but that's in my opinion. Protection is quality on the 5000's yet to take a blow in the kookaburras.

like people have said, if you have chance to get to a retailer, do it. and the puma 4000 look pretty much exactly the same as the 5000's. its all a case of ow comfortable you feel, dont base keeping pads on looks in my opinion :)

hope this helps

i know you said you wanted new, but the offer of a set of ballistic 5000 fxt pads going cheap from me is here if need be :D

as well as a couple of sets of bn keeping gloves (ss and another) ;)

They are comfy, but i'd prefer wearing pads low so they dont suit me and the unbouncy briz pitches!

SS Gladiators will be OK for wearing low, I chose them over flextechs

Hmm...that's the thing I guess. Hard to trek anywhere either then? :( - Cause we can suggest Keeping Pads all we want, but in the end it is more about comfort because most of them are the same quality... :)

Might be a good shout mate, seems that you will have to go a fair way to try some top quality pads on. I would check stock before you go and have a good idea what you are interested in...the M&H pads looked nice as I said, worth contacting Mike about them if you like them! Hope you find what you want in the end...I now love being in London, quite a few places to try out keeping pads! :)
