Title: Tendulkar's Bat
Post by: justnotcricket86 on February 28, 2011, 11:55:01 AM
I may be a bit late on the uptake here, but is there someone about that can do us a Sachin bat? I know Jonpinson has one, I think, and would be interested knowing more about it.

What's so special about his profile?

Plenty on here could match his profile but to get similar you need it to be 2lb12+ as that's what he uses plus it has an ultra low middle

Kieron has a mr t shape based on sachins bat but you need to like a low middle otherwise you will not get on with it as all the weight is there

The Hattori is a low middle, will do for me. Just wondered what the deal was with his bats, always seem to be a topic on here, for obvious reasons. Stunning knock from him yesterday, think that makes it 98 International tons

We have some Tendulkar profiles made by arguably the best bat maker in the uk here at the Uzi shop. As has already been mentioned an exact replica would weigh in no less than 2' 12 due to the profile so a little has been taken off by moderate concaving so the bats we have weigh between 2'8 and 2'11.

I'm lucky enough to have access to some of his old bats and they are very nice, it is one of the most copied shapes going and there must be 4/5 places he does get bats from. I can get you an exact copy of his bat if wanted, plus I can take a picture of it next to the real thing if you want to be sure.

Heaviest we have is 2.11 though with a lower middle it will feel slightly heavier.

Harvey -
I know those bats you have posted look nice, but they really don't look anything like the Sachin profile

(unlike the ones in the other link on this thread:

-Those bats just look like a relatively standard asian profile bat.  Just my view obviously, but if you are going to buy a Sachin bat you should do it properly, not just get a poor imitation.
If those bats are being sold as really nice bats with clean faces and good grains then that would be fine with me - the look great, but seriously the look nothing like this

Buzz,

As stated in my 1st post they have been made with compromises as they are lighter than 2.12. Some cancaving and obviously the edge size is slightly smaller as the bats are slightly lighter. I'm not claiming that they are an exact match.

Title: Re: Tendulkar's Bat
Post by: Buzz on February 28, 2011, 02:41:07 PM
I get what you are saying and recognise the caveat you put in your earlier post - but my view is that the adjustments have meant that the bats no longer have anything like the Sachin profile - if you wanted a lighter bat in that profile, then the profile will just have to be smaller (thinner) By adding in the concaving and reducing the edge sizes the bats will have a totally difference look, feel and pickup.

I am very happy for people to disagree with me and I am certainly not questioning the quality of the bats
Title: Re: Tendulkar's Bat
Post by: Talisman on February 28, 2011, 02:43:34 PM
I was going to post a thread elsewhere about this shape....

As a few will know I used a bat made for Sachin that he had ordered himself rather than a copy, that bat has now found a new owner and I also have used a few copies from the same maker and several of those are also with a new owner. I'd swapped to a rather nice Z de B TT which was too heavy for him but after Instinct started I was promised a free bat in lieu of willow supply and asked for a Sachin.

The result was the biggest Sachin I've seen at his exact weight, 2.13, I have swapped the grip to a double thickness and it now weighs 2.14 including stickers and grip with 41mm edges. I've put it next to a BDM Sachin copy which is 2.13 to give a sense of scale.

The real thing.

I'm going to let Asad have his input as it was he who asked the bat maker to clone the Tendulkar profile.

That's ridiculous, cheers for sharing Mike.

One of the main reasons I started this thread was to find out more about his bats. Has he ever given a reason as to why he uses such a heavy bay for such a small chap?
Title: Re: Tendulkar's Bat
Post by: roco on February 28, 2011, 02:46:29 PM
Still amazes me that sachin uses 2lb12 bats and used to use 3lb as alot of people say you need a light bat to face true pace or to bat at the top of the order as 2lb12+ bats are usually described as sloggers bats
Title: Re: Tendulkar's Bat
Post by: Talisman on February 28, 2011, 02:51:08 PM
I think the main reason a lot of the older players used such a heavy bat was down to the extremely high price for an English willow bat in India and the typical shape had masses of wood in it to reduce breakages. The Indian Pro's I played with and against always quoted this as the reason they all used 3lb's as Sachin started with, he drops down an ounce every couple of years due to long term injuries.

He has them at 2.13 dead with a small round handle and single grip.

These bats were going to be made with Tendulkar original(old shape) shape but we couldn't control the weight as I wanted light bats. You are correct Buzz that by doing that it is not exact copy of profile what Tendulkar uses.
The pick up on these bats is excellent and you could say that these are like Asian bats but which bat is not made in Asian style now a days.
I have a Sachin bat which has been sent to my son by SS guy and I would be happy to share the photos with you.

Back when Sachin was a little kid playing in Mumbai (prolly 10-12 y/o), he couldn't afford a bat of his own. So he'd share his elder brother Ajit's bat. Obviously that was too heavy for him then, but that's how he got used to heavy bats at a very young age. He's started using lighter bats after getting chronic tennis elbow. I believe he said he uses 2'12 bats now, but Mike might know better...

He will be receiving few more bats from SS as they are being made for him at the moment

He plays for Gloucestershire 2nd team and hoping to get into 1st team. He is currently busy with his A level exams so I am trying my best to keep him away spending all his time on Cricket.
He spent last week training with 1st team at Bristol County Ground.
The SS guys signed him directly  and I don't know the exact details of the deal.

Saying that SS and BAS guys are very close family friends and they signed him not on our friendship basis but on his cricketing abilities(I hope)

To be fair Asad I love tight grains but don't like the look of those on the SS, I think you are being unfair if he feels that he doesn't like them, if we all agreed on the same things the world would be a boring place, have it in the shop on Friday and I'll have a look in person ;)

I am not a grain man Mike and my main criteria chosing a bat is that the pick up and How soft it is pressed.
I don't think my comments were unfair as he has previously wrote similar comments about another of my bat. I have been posting here for many years and I would take Constructive feedback from someone who has good knowledge about Cricket bats.
It is the way he writes about other peoples equipment. Plz feel free and come and have a look and feel the bat. It is at the shop.

Not a huge grain fan myself more in the rebound as it can look like crap for all I care as long as the ball goes bye bye I'm happy but I'm sure you have some there that will do that as well but some people like loads of grains and you have to cater to all markets to survive I guess

Hi Asad - please can you explain a little more about what you mean when you say "how soft it is pressed"? I thought if a bat was pressed soft it would just need more knocking in? I agree that the impact of the number of grains is frequently a personal thing, as is pick up but pressing  ???
I should caveat my comments with the disclaimer that I know nothing about how bats are made or pressed and only a little about how you use one!!!
