Bucko - if the pitches where soo bad, how comes IPL 2008 was so sucessful?

Also there's nothing wrong with India's stadia. Chennai, Mumbai, Mohali, Delhi, Kolkata etc all Test venues, where always sold out in IPL 2008.

Sultan of Swing - I know that Lalit Modi said that IPL 2009 is due to earn £75-100m, but I highly doubt that ECB or Cricket South Africa will pocket the lot. Maybe 50% of gate fees and BCCI paying some sort of good will, say £10m. The franchise owners wouldn't give away all the profits just to ensure that IPL 2009 runs.
I'm not saying it wasn't a success, but from a personal point of view I prefer seeing the lush green outfields and crisp wickets of England and Australia rather than the dusty, patchy pitches of the subcontinent

IPL 2008 hardly had dusty, square turners, just ask Murali.

And I'm not sure what 'crisp' wickets are, but most of the pitches in OZ are flat, so they're more similar to Indian wickets.
