Your problem is that they are all close to the Metropolitan mass that is London, but to get to them you need to go to different stations.

Basingstoke is about 45-60 mins outside of Waterloo station in SW1, central london, while Maidstone is 1hr5 from Victoria, and Warsop are at Chelmsford which is about 35 mins from Liverpool Street.

If you are staying in Walworth, dependent on where you are, your options are Denmark Hill, Elephant and Castle or Oval tube/rail stations. If you are near Elephant and Castle or Oval, then you can go to either of Waterloo or Liverpool Street with little hassle, but it will take you 15 mins in either direction. If you are nearer Denmark Hill, you best get a bus to one of the other two.

Nearest London isn't all its cracked up to be simply because you also have to get across London and deal with whichever Tube lines are closed that weekend.

If you're interested in the history of the game you could do worse than to spend a Sunday afternoon at the home of cricket - The famous Bat & Ball pub, Broadhalfpenny Down , Hambledon.

The pub is closer to Clanfield than Hambledon and is a 10 minute taxi ride from Petersfield railway station. Catch the London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour train about 75 minutes and then jump in a cab. As with Chase cricket it's in the middle of nowhere so you would need to sort out a return taxi.

There is always a game on a sunday afternoon, the pub has quite a bit of cricket memorabilia on the walls and the food is good quality. The landlady keeps a good pint of Fullers and you could always try the beer I was brought up on HSB - Horndean Special Brew, unfortunately no longer brewed by Gales in Horndean but not a bad effort by the Chiswick lot.

I second all of this, I played here the other day. Top ground, great history, lovely spot and lovely pub opposite...the HSB slips down rather nicely...:-)
