Its quite pathetic that this can come from an Ex Lancashire team mate also.  Just shows what the modern day cricketer/celebrity, feels like they can get away with..... Just doesn't seem to be the same respect of ex players these days.

I have to admit I'm pleasantly surprised by the reaction from most people to this. I half expected everyone to slag me off for having a go at 'Freddie', but it seems his popularity sits with casual fans and proper cricket fans have the same opinion of him as those of us overseas - good player, absolute c-nt - and a great respect for Atherton.

when athers was England captain, he admonished darren gough for being too self centred and celebrating wickets with the crowd before the team.
in the last few years of his career Freddie was known to celebrate his wickets for the cameras rather than the team.  pretty self indulgent.

having said that. anyone who witnessed  his bowling at the oval in 2005 or lords in 2009 would know his unbelievable qualities.

as for athers, he scored more test runs than any other batsman in the 90's.
I think that gives him the experience to comment.
he also apologised to cook about a year ago.
Freddie is looking to promote himself again.
better not say much more as I might bump into him on cobham high street and need to ask for an autagraph!
there are two things they have in common, their county and that their stats didn't do justice to the qualities of their performances.
