Kit bag Dilemma
« on: December 26, 2012, 11:17:15 PM »

I have a problem finding a suitable Kit bag and wonder if anyone can help. I have a Newbury Zeus longblade bad which would require a bag 96cm plus , I would prefer the bat ionside the compartment dur to my other factor which as a member of a visuially impaired cricket team it is public transport all the way round the country which means
it should stand upright , be extremely hard wearing, dragable & protective of the kit and bat inside,
I had a GM original 5 star which has torn , the zips have broken and has rather let me down
Any sugesstions greatfully recived

Checkout the Slazenger V360 bag (Paul at IJC shared with me the following review).
Technically it's still a duffle / rucksack, but it's the same capacity and size as most wheelie bags (except the massive stand ups): http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/cricket-bags-bat-covers-c3/slazenger-v360-holdall-cricket-bag-p498

If its a wheelie you really need - I have the GM duplex from a couple of seasons ago with the foam bat holder rather than the bat cave / slide in which most of the latest bags have you could modify for it to be snug.

Hi Toby, I would recommend this bag: http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/cricket-bags-bat-covers-c3/slazenger-v1200-stand-up-wheelie-cricket-bag-p497  As you can see from the video review (next to the thumbnails), the bat vault is large enough to (comfortably) fit long handled bats in, so I'd imagine your long blade Newbery will be fine too.  The dimensions are 100cm x 40cm x 40cm.

Charlie Eve on here recently bought one of these bags from us, and wrote a review of it on here, so that may be of use to you too...  Please PM if the bag is of interest.  Cheers.

I'll dig out the review when I'm back on Saturday and not using my iPhone for reading the forum!

Good shout! Although taking that on public transport all the time, as Toby needs to, would be a nightmare!  :D You might have to pay for another seat! Are there any duffles around that also have wheels at the bottom so they can be dragged? That might be a good option?

Dunno, I've taken my AERO on a number of trains and not had any problems doing so, though its true that it is quite large - the mid range one is also a very good bag that might be equally suitable for someone with less junk than me.

What I do like about AERO bags, which is directly relevant here, is that they have much the strongest and most stable carrying system of all the stand bags that I have tried.  If you're carting them a distance (I live half a mile from the bus stop) then that makes a massive difference!

I echo the Aero bag, I have the biggest one and it is very solid, Only downside I had to buy a new car to fit it in the boot.

What generation of Aero bag have people used? I had the first 2 years of stand up bag and both fell apart after a seasons use. My County bag has been much harder wearing. It's big enough but not as well designed in terms of pockets and compartments

I've had the light blue one (2008) which gave me three hard seasons of wear and tear and is probably useable for one or two more if someone wants to take it out of my shed and then the black one last year, which has been perfect thus far...

Aero actually do two stand ups.  The one I've had is the cheaper (slightly smaller) red and blue one which I've been a bit disappointed with and is almost dead after only half a year's use.  The one Iain (Manormanic) is referring to is the larger £100+ one, which sounds better, but I personally can't get round the £100 price tag, so we don't stock those, only order in when required as we did with Iain...

Paul, its worth the money - seriously strong and sturdy with puches for everything.  I mean, I manage to carry four bats, pads, lid, two pairs of gloves, all my whites, shower stuff, towels and coaching gear in mind and still wheel it comfortably down the street...

Good to know, Iain.  It's clearly a top quality bag! I still think £100 puts off the vast majority of the punters out there though.  Especially when perfectly good alternatives, like the Slazenger V1200 and Newbery Tour, come in around the £80 mark and provide pretty much exactly the same space and quality...

Couldn't comment on the Slazenger one having never seen them - the Tour I have seen as one of the CS lads has one, and yeah, they're also decent bags.  For me, the transport mechanism is not quite as sturdy, which would be a bit of a put off given my walk...
