I find fitness last season was extremely important, as  i was playing U15 and my home ground used the same boundaries as the 1XI, so there were very few boundaries and many 3's and 4's through running.

Very important for me as I play basketball which is very high intensity.  Involves a loy of gym work and a lot of practice!

Fitness is very important to me, though only just behind:-

BBQ
Deserts
Eating Out
KFC/Burger King
Sleeping

Seriously I try to go to the gym 3 times a week, play indoor footy, walk etc. Anything to lose weight and stop getting out of breath. I'm even eating less nowadays  :(

Like a few out there I did my cruciate playing football when I was 26 (now 33) and after keyhole in March I put on a couple of stone and really struggled to get through my overs that season (even with my military medium), so started to hit the gym (both cv and weight sessions), this was quickly followed by road running - my running season was start serious training after Christmas and do a 10k + half marathon just before the season as a motivator and I'm all set for early spring with a bit of gym / running over the summer.

However I then managed to damage my Achilles in 2009 twisting and turning when batting (don't think 13 overs straight after helped) so again under the knife. Difference this time is a controlled diet, I don't do so much road running due to the impact but as you get older you need to do something (cycling, cross trainer but with a bit if interval training to improve fitness).

Every season I see some of my club mates who rock up and really struggle early season with months of no or little exercise. Cricket (especially batting) can be frustrating and if fitness is on your mind too, your confidence takes a knock!

That said I have a sweet tooth so I always seem to put on weight over christmas, so its back to the gym to do a bit around work and family life. If its general cardio fitness you want and your pushed for time or motivation I would really recommend a few spin classes a week no matter your age!

im a bigger set guy but I wouldn't say im unfit. very rarely do i fell it affects my fielding and as Im usually bottom order it doesn't overly affect my batting.

however this year (started 2 weeks ago) im trying to drop some weight as after Rugby (shattered right foot) and football (regular knee) injuries in the past my weight grew far to much and I finally said enough is enough. So far im down half a stone and looking to continue on and with training starting soon im hoping to drop a decent amount so I can really progress my cricket, and my overall health.

Who really wants a 22 year old 20 stone (19 1/2 now) player.

I'm similar, being 23 and about 17-18 stone.  I've had to give up rugby due to persistent knee problems.  I do try and go swimming/ use a rowing machine 2-3 times a week, as it's very good, low impact cardio.

Nearly two years ago I tore the ligaments in my right ankle playing football.
Since then I've tried many times to run again but ankle just swells up. I've tried the cross trainer and bikes but find them so boring!
