How important is fitness for you?

As the title says, how committed are you towards your fitness level when it comes to cricket (or in general)?

Do you pay any attention to your fitness or are heedless when it comes to that?

I personally feel that if you're fit, then cricket becomes easier for you.

Fitness for me is major part of my like not jus physical but also mental fitness. Fitness should be a big part of everybody's life as its a sure way to prolong your existence from many medical problems. As I'm in the military fitness for me underpins everything we do and it also played a big part in my cricketing

I run 5 mile on a morning and also do insanity on an evening with also some weight sessions thrown in 3 x a week on a Saturday ill do a 15 mile bike ride
So for me fitness is a big part of it

Fitness is the most important thing. I actually enjoy running so that goes well helps out a lot and i also do athletics alongside cricket. The problem i have is the classic sweet tooth just can't resist.

Fitness is important, but primarily because I'm 24 years diabetic, and maintaining my fitness keeps me less likely to suffer complications. That it makes cricket easier is a simple benefit. As it stands, I cycle to and from work most days a week to maintain this and run at weekends. It all helps.

I think it's hugely important no matter what sport you play.  Although I've always been blessed by being quite naturally fit (probably something to do with there being nothing to me), I'll always try and tailor my fitness programme to suit what sport I'm playing.  So at the moment my programme is about 50% core fitness, 25% specific weight training and the remainder CV based in short sharp blasts.

A great exercise I'm using a the moment is 15 minute on a CV machine (I use a rower) start 1 minute at 60% thn a 2 min blast at 100%, keep repeating this until the end of the 15 minutes, its an absolute killer, but works brilliantly!

I really need to place a greater emphasis on fitness.

Since my knee injury my fitness has dropped off as i can't go running regularly etc and I've gained weight but I'm still naturally fit. I can bat for 30+ overs and not end up struggling and in the field etc. I think fitness is very important for any sport, it makes so many things easier:
Fielding becomes less taxing so you concentrate more and so field cleaner, take catches as your concentration is high
Batting is easier and you score more runs as you make the right decisions and don't end up just hitting it as your tired
You accumulate more runs in singles and 1's into 2's as your quicker
Bowling wise you can keep up the intensity for a period and not end up dropping that little bit of pace or just bowling that odd bad ball which can make the difference.
Mainly though, because you'll enjoy the game more for it. I know I did in 2009 when I was very fit. I could just run around all game and at the end not be tired (I was doing sub 9 min mile and a half runs then).

Fitness is never something I have focused on, but will be trying to this year. But for me something always gets in the way.

Painting and other things in the house.

Someone wiping me out in football has lead to injury's of my foot and knee which is leaving me unable to run for now.

Have you thought about Cross Trainer/ elliptical trainer? Very low impact. Helps me a lot, used this a lot after I did my knee ligaments bowling at 13!
I'm not the biggest fan of the treadmill!

For me, fitness is a big part of my life.
Unfortunately, I'm not gifted with 'fit' genes, meaning I have to watch what I eat and continually exercise!
Though it's good in a way, pushing yourself and reaping the rewards for it later.

This is my normal week at the moment:
Monday: Weights- Chest and Triceps. Followed by 20 mins on X-Trainer at 65% of my heart rate (HR is 220 minus your age)
Tuesday: 6.30am Bootcamp style outdoor work out for 1 hour, Interval training with lots of focus on the core. Tues night: weights- Legs and Lower back
Weds: normally day off in winter, Evening league cricket in summer months.
Thursday: Boot camp again- different trainer to Tuesdays, same values as before. 6.30pm Football training, 8.30 Weights- Biceps and Ab's.
Friday: Weights- Shoulders Back and Traps, second favourite day behind chest and Triceps!

Saturday 8.00am Bootcamp again. 3.00pm Football
Sunday: 10.30am Football

Well since I saw my videos and realised how big I'd actually got I'm going to go back to my previous training weeks.

Monday - gym (Hour on the xtrainer (aiming to do 12kms)), 30 mins bike (where the first 20 mins you have to do 10.5km) and then weights (nothing heavy but mainly just to maintain strength and build up stamina etc) and then sit ups, press ups and squats +knee related stuff.
Tuesday - Circuit training
Wednesday - 30 mins xtrainer (basically half normal), 15 mins bike (again, half normal) and then just body weight stuff
Thursday -Circuits
Friday half session like Wednesday.
Saturday - repeat monday basically
Sunday - day off.

THen add to that nets etc.

I'm only just starting out on it again so it's hard work and not all the targets are currently being hit but I'm hoping by march it'll be standard. Once march is here I'll be outside doing some sprints to represent running between the wickets.

That's the plan anyway, be interesting to see if you guys notice the size difference over time :)

I agree entirely what you all are saying but I cant see myself going to the gym 3 times a week. I always put alot of weight on in the the winter so I plan to lose atleast 2 stone before the start of the season. It isnt so much to help my fitness but for me to feel more confident out in the middle.

To me fitness is very important but mostly the strength side of it. yes ofcourse your standing and running whilst batting your running a lot and need to be fit in that way, but you wont be in long if you dont have the strenght to bat.
you need a base which comes from your core, arms need to be strong enough for the weight of the bat. after a dive you need to be able to jump up and run after the ball. whilst bowling you need to be able to hold your body up in the action so you dont fall down and bowl a wide.
i'd say strength is a mayor fitness area in cricket

Hahah! exercise at home, Gym, or just go to indoor nets. But i do have to add i dont have a off season really. i train and coach in the off season.
