Got this performance laminate made up for me. The bat maker has used a special coating on the back and edges to hide the seam in the laminate. I think it looks very good and will look great once I apply stickers. The bat itself is around 3lbs I say but I need to weigh it as I have no scales at the moment. It is a huge piece of wood with a lovely oval handle. I will probably use it in nets to improve timing otherwise I will sell it on

That is indeed something different! That coating does its job, can't see any joint?
Is this a Lam with the very thin laminated layer, hence the performance tag?

It is a thin laminate on the bat so its for performance rather than edge size

Do people think than coating the bats to cover the seams is the way forward or would they rather the bat the normal way?

I think that coating the with a glossy finish looks a bit unnatural and will draw some attention in any case. Maybe a matte finish would be better.
I presume this is Indian made? Didn't think that they did the performance lams as well.

Is the coating to hide that it's a laminate, so that it could be used in a league game without the other team knowing better?

It is not as glossy as it looks in person. The light reflecting off it in the photos. It is Indian made, I got it made as a one off by my bat maker. I will probably get a few more made in the near future

The coating is there for 2 reasons. One is to hide the join and the other is to allow an ugly cleft to be used on the back. The coating might also have a increased affect on the performane, who knows

Also, wonder how much weight it adds to the bat? Think you should have one made without the coating and test both for performance and see!

Looks aside, what's the point in a 3lb lam? If you middle it with a normal 3lb bat it should go like a tramp on chips anyway

I will look into this and get a few made to compare.

I can get lighter ones made. This was just an experiment as ive never had a lam before and have wantes to try out a heavy bat to improve bat speed

I get the concept behind laminates, just don't think at our level they have an effect.

Just a quick update on this bat. I have not used it yet because I have only been to cricket once so far this year due to work etc. I also weighed it and was surprised that it is 3lbs 8oz so the pick up is brillient as I have picked up 3lb bats which picked up heavier. I will probably sell this now as I will not get a chance to use such a good bat. The ball nearly hits the roof when I bounce a ball on it
