I made one early on when I first started making for a bit of fun. Was made from a part made and I've had no issues with it. It's actually an absolute rocket! I just left the lower part of the handle a little thicker. Not massively but just a bit thicker. Seems to do ok.

That's great new thanks I was a little worried now since someone had brought it up. Do you mind me asking how you cut the shoulders down ? I was planning on using a bandsaw
Thanks

The Mongoose doesn't (or at least didn't) have a reverse splice. In fact the early Kashmir junior bats were made entirely from Adult Kashmir willow bats cut down and shaped here in the UK

The bat on the right here is an untwined Mongoose. Hard to see the splice, but it's a standard one I assure you

To be fair I always thought the splice was normal but up in the handle

Yep that's correct. However, under Appendix E of the MCC laws the blade cannot protrude more than 2.5" into the bound handle area and only 2.75" of the blade can be covered in grip.

To circumvent this law you have to slice through the the 'ears' (where the blade meets the handle) at a certain point. This is why the Mongoose had a large covering of grip tape (which is actually deemed a sticker within the MCC laws) so the cut is actually made closer to 3" from the base of the splice.

The design may have changed, this is the design up until 2011/12.
