I've eventually got round to doing a review of my second ever bat from B3 which I actually bought at the end of the summer.
Bit of background first. I was after a bat that looked similar in profile to Joe Root's Six6 (which looks pretty different to the standard shape). When I saw Dave's DW2 shape I thought this pretty much did the job so I enquire with Dave and then Streaky about getting one done from a low density butterfly cleft. I wanted it to be about 2lb 9oz.
Streaky got back to me very promptly to say he didn't really have anything suitable so I kept in touch for a week or so and eventually decided to go for a one stripe Custom B3 with a density of 376. Streaky said this should come in at around my weight, maybe a bit over. We then discussed final details over the 'phone and went ahead with the order. I think Streaky gave me a pretty good deal being a returning customer.
The bat arrived about about 2 weeks after first contact and I am very pleased with it. As you can see from the photos it is a great profile, basically like a 1271 but with a duck bill toe. It arrived weighing 2lb 9oz exactly and having added a scuff sheet it is a little over this. It doesn't have huge edges but the spine is massive and there is no concaving - it is very big for the weight.
It has a great oval handle and picks up beautifully. This is probably down to the weight higher up the blade as you'd expect with the 1271. It has 6 pretty straight grains and a few blemishes on the face, as one would expect from a one stripe cleft, but it taps up really well and feels great in the hands.
Very happy with the see-through, black stickers and will probably add a white/black GM ripple grip as love see grips.
The service and advice from both Dave on here and Streaky was excellent and I would recommend them to anyone. I would also recommend the DW2 shape as I think it is a great mix between the traditional and modern shapes.
Enjoy the pics.
