So tonight is the night that I'm at my new nets. Not quite sure how I feel about it a cross between job interview nerves and excitement!

Anyways was discussing today in work what my first shot should be...
Should it be an exaggerated leave, forward defensive, scoop/ramp or wild charge down the wicket?!?

Exaggerated leave aslong as its on the stumps. That will impress them.

In all seriousness(which is strange from me) is play the ball on merit. I wild shot first up may make them believe your a hot head that will throw it away at any minute.
Obviously if you are that. Fair play.

I'd say just play your natural game, one of the new guys at my club's first winter nets last week just played the way he would normally, he certainly impressed me.

I had nets on Sunday with my ( likely) new team.
I'm 42, fat, and hate batting in nets.
Whereas the next oldest was probably about 25 ( with most in late teens/ early twenties), and had as much extra body weight as a biafran

Can relate to what you have written went to my new clubs nets the other Sunday the eldest there was about 35 years younger than me they were  all throwing themselves around the sports hall to stop the ball and there was me with a dodgy knee....

To @Seniorplayer and @spoonbed

The impotent question is how did you both get on? Play well and Impress?? Played to your ability? Or was the pressure to much and had a mare??

It sounds daft to some but when I've left to join a new side(I'm on my 4th club but have been here for about 10 years now) it's always been made easier by being mid season. So the straight into a game situation has seemed easier to me than showing up at that first net and all eyes being on me.

My preferred route would have been to be thrust straight into a game scenario.
Outside, I think I can hold my own at the level I play ( which isn't great to be honest!), but I really do not like batting in the nets( probably because after 5 mins I'm blowing like a steam train)

Agree with you both straight into a match is best as  I can't bat at nets under the lights  with no time between balls  to compose yourself  with the bowlers queueing up and the ball  flying around  only really interested in hitting balls that I can play from the crease as don't want to waste energy chasing wide balls tend to leave more than i play followed by spending time gathering up the balls that's not been played at from the net behind the stumps and throwing them back to the bowlers.
So batted to my ability I guess.

I feel somewhat more inclusive now I've been added to the club's Whatsapp group, hah. Small things.

Club nets start Thursday with I'm ridiculously excited for, if only to be netting on a consistent weekly basis. Also got an email earlier regarding tour, it's all coming together...

So I turned up tonight to find only 2 other chaps there, wasn't quite the turn out I expected. However they both made me feel very welcome and apologised for the lack of a turn out. Bowled alright early up but wasn't so good after batting, didn't help it was to a leftie. Batting felt good despite the long winter months. First ball I miscued a strong forward defensive straight back over his head (oops!) for probably 4.
Glad to have had a good session and looking forward to the new season.
