All rubbish pitches play slightly differently. Spend a bit of time watching from the sidelines the bounce and what the bowlers are doing. Then formulate a plan. Low wickets getting forward is key. Lifting decks playing off the bat foot or using very soft hands. If it's doing a bit of everything then pick a plan that works for you. I would say attacking the bowling is a great strategy, I've seen the odd slogger change the nature of a pitch simply because he's put the bowlers off a length. Takes a bit of balls, no little skill and alot of luck but don't underestimate what a few big shots can do. The complete opposite strategy is simply to hang in there. By hanging around you hope that somebody is having an off day and feeds a few full tosses. It's quite possible the pitch might ease or you'll start seeing the ball better. Time at the crease does that.

Teams I've played against who've grown up on terrible pitches all tend to bat pretty similarly:

- Get forward to 99% of deliveries.
- Block anything on the stumps, nothing attacking at all.
- Throw the kitchen sink at anything that's not on the stumps.

^ The best way to play on a uneven pitch.
