Whilst I admit it's odd that it's not being hosted at what is a fortress for us, to be fair it's hosting test matches over 4 of the 5 years, plus is getting the 50 over competition and the T20 Blast finals days from Edgbaston. Don't think they can complain too much, really?

Not about whether Notts can complain so much as wanting to take the Ashes to the masses whilst getting the same conditional advantage every other team gets.

What a waste of time the new t20 competition is going to be, I'll be (No Swearing Please) if I'm schlepping over to Cardiff to go and see the Welsh Dragons or whoever play and I suspect most county fans will think the same. Going to be embarrassing when the county grounds are still full watching the Blast and the test match grounds are half empty for the new comp.

I realy hope it goes something like this.

You want an English ground with English swinging conditions about as English place you are going to get, but of course jettisoned by the ECB and weren’t going to get a t20 either.... any guesses which county I support? Oh well!

So what do we all think the new teams are going to be then now that the venues have been announced -

Lord's - North London
Oval - South London
Old Trafford - Manchester
Headingley - Leeds
Edgbaston - Birmingham
Ageas Bowl - Southampton
Trent Bridge - Nottingham
Cardiff - Cardiff

I thought the teams werent going to be named after the cities or counties they were based in, so as not to alienate residents of neighbouring "rival" towns/cities.

Will that really make any difference what so ever!

Someone from Bristol isn't going to support the side playing at Cardiff whether they are called Cardiff or the Welsh Dragons etc... and the same can be said for living in Newcastle and supporting Leeds/White Rose or living in Kent area and supporting South London or what ever they are likely to want to call themselves.

It's all about loyalty to the counties and the quite simple geography of our country.

I thought so too. It's strange but as a Sheffield Wednesday fan I immediately baulked when you mentioned the Headingly team might be called Leeds, but i'd be well behind them if it was Yorkshire or White Rose or whatever else.

Old habits die hard.
