« on: December 06, 2018, 03:20:49 PM »

First time ever recorded practicing at nets to see what mistakes I am making batting so i could look later to improve.

first 1 min and so is friend who is batting first time ever in nets. After that is me in blue top. Video is bit long i guess for some but i havnt got any editing tool or simply i don't know how to use it to make it fast and short. Any advise and criticism would be helpful.

Agree with what you said. I used to be very bottom hand dominant and hitting mostly on on side. I have managed to take bottom hand off to some extent that helped me playing offside shots. I am not very technical but I feel that works for me otherwise it's too much to fix in short time.
But I have managed to improve started using front foot but I do go on back foot in between and trap myself. Still working on it.

I think I need to adjust bat handle or my grip a bit as bat twisted few times and ball went onside where I intended to play straight or off side.
Before I used to put my top arm close to rib/waist but managed to move it out straigher a bit. Next time I put camera on off side to see if that angle shows any difference.

If you want to develop a  sound batting technique, first thing you should do is practice against good, consistent bowling. The BOLA machine would be ideal so that you can repetitively practice one or two shots. That repetition will ingrain (correct) movements (head, feet, body, and shoulders) into your muscle memory. I hear that coaches in England call that "grooving".

Quality of your practice will determine the quality of your technique and ultimately your batting. So, be as strict about your practice as you possibly can.

In a nutshell, find a BOLA machine or bat against better bowlers, these guys are all over the place and really not helping you with your batting technique.

@jayralh I envy your leg flicks. Your bat twisted quite a lot in your hand. Are you using round handle bat?

Handle is semi oval at bottom round at top. Grip is octopus. Maybe need to change grip. Easy singles with flicks.😀

I understand your point of playing one shot multiple time to train your mind muscle coordination but it's not possible where I play or net.
At club or nets there isn't any bowling machine.
I can't say to bowlers to bowl one length or line as they practicetheir bowling while I practice batting.
It is great idea though if I could manage to practice with machine

You can never go wrong white chevron especially whites ones. I tried al the grips but only use chevron now. I would take those singles over my zeros any day now.

You can however ask them to throw,Them or another batter, You’ll start to identify triggers, pick up length and make shot selection decisions. You can always focus on an area or length - forward or back - that you want to work on.

Side arm throwers, used properly, can also help improve your practice

Stay still in contact, hit the ball under your eyes and enjoy yourself! That’s why we play the game!

Good man, I always enjoy a net video! I think I'd just focus on improving your basics rather than getting into the technical nitty gritty, that should bring really noticeable improvements hopefully quite easily. Two things I think will make you much more consistent:

I'd focus on balance - your bat tap movement takes your head over to extra cover and at times you go that way during the delivery as well. If you can keep your head balanced between your shoulders and your weight always going down the pitch rather than towards cover you'll find everything gets better. Best way to work on that is setting up your stance in a nice balanced way, make sure you're balanced throughout, and then hold the pose after completing the shot.

On the off side in particular, wait for the ball. You're happy waiting when the ball's in your stronger areas on your pads, but when it's pitched up on the off side you're going into it way too early, if you can make the adjustment to play the ball later you'll find it much easier. 7:04 is a good example of what's going wrong - by the time the ball arrives your bat's a good 3 feet away from your body and your shoulders are almost facing sideways on. Keep your shape for longer and wait for the ball to come to you and you should be a lot more consistent.

Can you get them in black? as black goes well with bat stickers.

Thanks for good tips. i am not holding my pose is i think due to i want to return ball quickly to bowler ready to face next delivery but i will work on it. 7:04 is actually good example, that delivery moves away right as it approached me. It troubled me few times. But then i moved deep in crease and in line of ball and tried to play pull shot. I guess it is good idea? I did feel that i moved too quick towards ball and played early rather than waiting for it and play a cut shot off back foot maybe?

Another thing i like to mention that I used to practice at home something called "Empty the Pocket" and it helped with fixing bottom hand issue. Since i moved house i got no space to swing bat without hitting something so that kinda slowed progress a bit.
