I’ve followed this for a while and really don’t see the issue.

He’s not a paid player playing down
He’s a bloke who’s rocked up at his local club and wants to help them grow and succeed, he’s just happens to be above the level
Getting him out would be quite the scalp - so enjoy it bowlers who have!

As for the 200s yeah it’s excessive but he showing the level some of these lads are aspiring to. He probably helping with coaching and around the place and the opposition bowlers are probably thinking about ways to get him out. Everyone is trying to get better

He’ll be up a division next year I’m sure so he will play against better people so these 200s might disappear. Then he’ll get grief for being a “washed up pro”

Bloke can’t win. We should encourage ex pros going back to the club game, giving back and raising the level of the game.

The more the better!

Opposition bowlers won't be thinking about how to get him out, they'll be marking that week in the calendar as one for a weekend away with the mrs!

Ex international player one year retired smacking double hundreds off kids in 6th tier amateur cricket, what a waste of everyone involved's time.

What should he do then? What is the acceptable behaviour of an ex-international cricketer?

Give up the game?
Go charge 600 a week to a premier league team?
Score 100 and then shoulder arms?

I’m open to suggestions 😃

Get his 100 however he likes and then use his talent and experience to constantly rotate strike when he gets it without demolishing opposition attacks.

But he got 0 the week before, so how good is that bowler feeling! If he's playing, what's wrong with him playing properly and trying to win? He's scored 4 league tons and in the other games got less than 40.

We all play against people that are playing well below their ability and smash loads of runs or take wickets for fun. Yes he could go and play Premier league somewhere but if this is his local club and is happy to play for them, nothing wrong with it.

Not too fussed what he gets up to, just think it should be something that doesn't involve spoiling amateur cricketers fun!

Not sure he's actually doing Shrewton many favours either - 15th and 12th the previous two seasons, insert Rikki Clarke with nearly 1200 runs at over 90 and they're 3rd. How far can he drag them up the leagues before the rest of their players start to really struggle? Playing above your level is a lot less fun than playing below it haha.

Had Ricki Clark and Monty Penesar turn out for Bedhampton CC 150th anniversary a couple of weeks ago. I thought Monty looked better with the bat than Ricki :)

Carry on playing professional cricket.

Quite hard to carry in if there isn't a county willing to pay you. Plus he has a young family.

I have seen Rikki a few times over the last year as he is coaching my son, and he is a really nice guy.  He wants to play his cricket so let him get on with it.

We have a former pro at Cranleigh (as well as Pope and Tom Lawes) he wants to play cricket just let them play.

Surrey would have given him another contract. He chose to retire.

The South African opener Erwee has prepared for this (untalked about?) Test series by playing for Weybridge in the Surrey Championship. (Occasionally opening with Ben Curran.)

I don't think anyone is saying professionals shouldn't ever play in club cricket.

Think the main difference is playing Premier League cricket against other pros, ex pros, overseas, minor counties cricketers and talent local players. Than playing in Division 6 against 3rd teams...

Rikki Clarke isn't the only one doing it: https://www.espncricinfo.com/player/paballo-mogoera-595654
This chap is playing Div 6 in a different part of the country... he even turned out in Div 9 for the 2nd team when the 1s had a bye week.

Averaging a casual 120.80 with the bat (1208 runs in 17 hits including 6 hundreds) and 13.06 (51 wickets) with the ball.

And I have less of a problem with Rikki doing it as it sounds as though he is local and looking to give back to the club rather than a paid mercenary who is about for one season.

Paballo is a genuine overseas pro he just happens to be playing in division 6!! If the club in question want to splash out that sort of money when they are in Div 6 then it's not his fault. He played in the Norfolk Alliance Prem last season and averaged 22 so he's not a complete gun.

Surely no money is changing hands… can’t pay players in the TC league  ;)
He should be racking up those numbers playing that far below his standard!

Not sure what your saying, perfectly legitimate to pay players in the TC's league. In division 6 however, now that's a bit of a different question.... Of course he should be scoring runs at that level, was just pointing out that he's not necessarily like some of the overseas players in Div 1.
