Shoes for indoor nets
« on: July 01, 2013, 09:12:51 PM »

Any recommendations?

Shoes for use on mat and indoor astro turf, on a tight budget as always.

Bowlers in my team do seem to derive a lot of pleasure when they hit someone on the toe so something with protection is preferred.

thanks

I'd suggest a lightweight trainer. That way you can get your feet moving quicker. Alternately, use the bat before the ball hits your foot. Should be a full toss on leg stump you can work through straight mid wicket.

Running trainers do the trick.

Also a tip like the above, use the bat before the ball hits your toe.

I asked the bowlers to bowl im my toes as im weak on the legs, so first ball hits me directly on the big toe. I still feel it now and that was about 2months ago. :(

I walked right in to use the bat bit mate, :-)

Been using my running shoes and they are fine for most part, would like some protection to give me confidence in going forward.

I've got some hockey shoes/trainers waiting for me which look like they have better toe protection than trainers (they have a reinforced toebox for protection without rigidity) as i've had inswinging yorkers hit the top of my foot on a few occasions. We have a few quickies in our team and getting my bat down in time isn't always possible and I'm not sure getting the feet out of the way is the solution either in case of hitting onto the stumps.

I'll do a review based on how they initially look/feel when I get back to the UK in a couple of days. I guess the real test will be in nets which won't be for a while for me as still slowly recovering from a back injury.

Here's the link for the ones I bought but big brands like Asics do them too. Got them specifically for nets but might try them on an artificial wicket too if the grip is as good as they look. I thought there was a real crossover here between cricket on artificial and hockey pitches.

tennis shoes offer good protection as they have re-enforced toes for when tennis players serve

That is what I did. I bought some cheap spiked shoes and took the spikes out. Put them back in for outdoor and have been using them this summer.

Ok.. safely back in the UK and had a close look at the Gryphon Hockey Shoes/trainers as I posted earlier...

Great grip on the undersole with cushioning on the heel but as for the toe region there's no significant protection beyond a tough coating on the front end.. not sure what they meant in their original description which seems a bit misleading now as wanted that toe protection...

There's another post very similar to this on the forum and I think unless you wear the heavy leather cricket shoes of old which probably did offer more rigidity in the toe the newer style lightweight running type cricket shoes offer very little protection unless you're quick enough to get your foot/feet out of the way...

I can update this post once I've had a few net sessions and perhaps even taken one on the toe/upper foot.... :o

Thanks for coming back on this mate,  I will take the spikes out for now and wait your review. Can't risk spending anymore money just to try stuff.

Get yourself on Ali Express and buy 3 pairs from China for the price of one in the UK of just about every brand/colour/style....

Get one spiked up for outdoor, one for indoor and one to turn up to nets in !!!!.. Your shoes last ages and your pocket doesn't get hammed.

Before anyone says 'they are replicas, not the real thing' where do you think most trainers are made these days ??

Unless I'm running a marathon in them i think I'm ok with that....
