Ok.. safely back in the UK and had a close look at the Gryphon Hockey Shoes/trainers as I posted earlier...
Great grip on the undersole with cushioning on the heel but as for the toe region there's no significant protection beyond a tough coating on the front end.. not sure what they meant in their original description which seems a bit misleading now as wanted that toe protection...
There's another post very similar to this on the forum and I think unless you wear the heavy leather cricket shoes of old which probably did offer more rigidity in the toe the newer style lightweight running type cricket shoes offer very little protection unless you're quick enough to get your foot/feet out of the way...
I can update this post once I've had a few net sessions and perhaps even taken one on the toe/upper foot....
