Shouldn't we be concentrating on the performance than grading when buying a bat.

100% agree, was just wondering what everyone thought

We should go on performance...

However, depending on the price you pay, you expect more of both.

I always want performance over looks (Unless i'm buying to turn a profit on ebay).

I would have said Grade 2/3 for the initial bat - Heartwood being the issue for JSW - However, I have seen SS Ton LEs come out with heartwood on the edge and given a Grade 1 because of desirability and performance of that aspect.

Lets be honest, buying a bat is like choosing a girlfriend/getting married - Over time, looks fade and there are more important factors that we need to be successful... HOWEVER, NONE of us wants to be stuck with a total minger!

The grading has been put in by JSW and similar timer traders and then companies have taken this forward by classing the best looking and performing willow as the very best G1, etc.

Now when there is more demand for willow and not enough supply the grading goalpost has shifted a bit towards performance - just another way to push not a "classical" G1 willow up the tank and still make good money.

Anyway, I do agree with Asad, focus should be on performance. But if some one is paying £300+ for a bat, then he would want performance with good grain structure as well.

Willow merchant grading and bat maker grading are not necessarily the same thing.

Someone I know just bought this bat and was told it was grade 1.
I think it's more grade 3, what does everyone think?

How on earth can you think this bat is a G3 when you have some awful looking planks on your facebook page labelled as G2??
