Grade?
« on: October 13, 2013, 06:01:44 PM »

Someone I know just bought this bat and was told it was grade 1.
I think it's more grade 3, what does everyone think?

Why do you think it's G3 over G2 or G1?

The amount of red wood on the bat.
I'm going by JSW's grading system.
I don't completely agree with it, but that's what I think

Looks like the bats I use and they go as good as any grade 1 so I class them as that

There is no set grading system it varies by maker to maker

I would personally rate that a lot higher than a G3

G2?

Many grains, lots of heartwood.

Thought the red wood was the indicator.

If we went solely on JSW I think everyone would start seeing a shift in requests for Lower grade bats.

Fair enough pal!
That's just the guidelines I go by.

If it were my brand I'd have graded it as a 3, but different brands all grade differently.

Pretty Please start a brand. I'll buy a bucketload of grade 3 bats of you if they look like that!

If you like bats with a grain structure like this, then you'll probably find something similar looks wise in the Kookaburra 250 or Gray Nicolls 4* ranges from one of the retailers on here who handpick.

Here's some of the 250's Asad had last year

Shouldn't we be concentrating on the performance than grading when buying a bat.
