He was waiting on the delivery of some sweat pads that were kindly taken out by the ECB director so perhaps they only just arrived in time ;)

It wouldn't surprise me if he had them, but he's perhaps not got them either to hand (being shown around) or set-up for his head. As there was a rush of wickets, it was quicker and easier to grab the other.

This is again, speculation and depends what he actually wore first.
