Broady's lid
« on: November 22, 2013, 08:43:54 PM »

I know I'm a bit late on this but does anyone know why "the 27 year old English medium pacer" was wearing a Masuri when he first went out to bat??

Was he just being a bit of a helmet (pun intended) or was it a genius bit of marketing??

Could have been because he knew he was in for some chin music, so let one hit the inferior product so he could demonstrate the superior quality of the AdiTek?? (Highly unlikely but you never know lol).

I found it highly random.

I could only think he bottled wearing one, because of stick, then when the johnston bounces hit home, he decided safety was worth it over looks?

Because he hasn't had any stick at all so far in Australia, just can't understand why he did it  ???

Just read elsewhere he had the ayrtek on before lunch as was in the masuri after(only watched lunch on)

Maybe the ayrtek was saturated with sweat and he didn't want to wear it? But then thought (No Swearing Please) it when the masuri got damaged?

Possibly, I was only half watching the lowlights and saw him get hit with the Masuri on.
Surprised he's only got one AdiTek if getting it saturated is a problem for him though

Yeah I asked the same question.

From what I could tell, it was Artek, Mussy, Artek...

re the sweat hypothesis, do players have 2 lids in their bag? If they did surly two of the same?

Dunno if they carry 2 lids or not, if he was after someone else's to borrow Masuris are probably easier to grab quickly than an AdiTek.
If it's a known issue with it getting too sweaty I thought he'd have done something about it (maybe even just a spare ACIS in his bag to switch them while one dries)

Spare helmets depends on how many ayrtek could get done in England colours in time for ashes?

Maybe it was a vision thing. He's had a musuri all his career and has only switch to the aditek for the cb40 final and these warm ups.

Maybe he wasn't picking Johnston and blamed the helmet. Then when he got hit, realised it was just thwarting sheer pace he wasn't picking?

The number that could be produced is a good point.

And I'd love to hear that "The visibility in my AdiTek is much better than my Masuri, I just can't pick Mitch because of it. If I swap to a Masuri I'll not be able to see as well so I'll be able to pick him then!"  :-[

If your not having a good time, you tend to make snap judgements and blame a recently changed thing. Ala the helmet.

Anyway, no one on here will ever be able to give anything but guesswork, you'd need a broad interview to explain why,

I honestly didn't notice him come out in an Ayrtek... I thought he came out in a masuri and then got hit so called for a helmet change... I thought I watched every ball but must have nodded off for 5 to miss him come out in an Ayrtek...

No hang on I watched him come on to the field and he definitely started on a Masuri

Maybe he did start with a mussy,  I could be mistaken.

Not buying the production issue. Anyway one lid is all they carry,  I'm sure.

If he did start in a Artek it seems unlikely it's a vision issue.  But still possible I guess.

Like you say we will never know!

I just think it's a "dare to change" thing... Once more people start seeing and wearing them they will become more widely accepted

I think most batsmen carry two lids with them.  I do recall Strauss getting hit a couple of years ago and he had his old GN lid brought out.

I guess they are the most likely to be hit (on the international stage) and the rule of thumb seems that helmets are structurally damaged after one hit.

I hope that Broad started in his Masuri for familiarity, rather than worried about getting stick from the crowd.  I have to say the Aditek looks bloomin good reflecting the Aussie sun!

I would wager that there will be Aussies all over the country looking to snap them up by the end of the Ashes...
