You may be unlucky and get no decent clefts

Is each log generally split into 8 clefts (or maybe 6 oversize ones)?
Number of logs depends on height of main trunk up to the first branch, so 3 possibly 4 logs.

zzzzzz but here are the figures, I'm not sure if I have done this before though.

Buy one get the second half price so �450 for two (*5 = 10 bats = �2250)

�2,250 today but I reckon a bit of haggling and it would be �2,000 for 10 bats today.

With inflation (2.5%) the same bats would cost

�2,260 in 5 yrs
�2,560 in 10 yrs
�2,890 in 15 yrs

Money banked
�1,000 = �1,130 in 5yrs
�500 = �640 in 10yrs
�100 = �145 in 15yrs

Money Invested
�1,000 = �1,400 in 5yrs
�500 = �983 in 10yrs
�100 = �276 in 15yrs

In Summary (this is not advice, just numbers)

�1,000 invested for five years returns 126% growth ((2260-1000)/1000)*100 or 113% return above the money in the bank
�500 invested for ten years returns 412% growth ((2560 - 500)/500)*100 or 384% above the bank
�100 invested for fifteen years returns 2790% growth ((2890 - 100)/100)*100 or 2745% above the bank

As with all investments it carries risk, will they still be going, will the bats be rubbish, will you still be playing

A good analysis.

What assets class would one put this 'investment' into? and could you actually class this as an investment, or a 'future with physical delivery', or a 'future purchase'?

One of my team mates owns a tree and we did discuss proposing the club buys one or two.

I like the idea. It's a lot of fun, but can you compare is as an asset class alongside cash?

how much land do i need to actually grow my own willow?
would be happy with 1 or 2 trees every year after the initial ten.

Impresssive figures but it's not about the money it's about the fun, the risk taking, living the dream etc.

You hand over �100 and in 15 years time you might have 10 quality bats, who knows. Just spend the next few years wondering what your going to do with them.

I've got 5 coming my way in 2028, shared a tree with my best friend - one for me when i'm 65, one for my boy who will be 37, perhaps a junior version for one of his kids, leaves 2, maybe 1 for my daughter's fella and one for my old man who will be 91.

Just do it.
