Next permanent England head coach :

Ashley Giles (11/8) (For comparison)
Mick Newell (3/1)
Tom Moody (8/1)
Garry Kirsten (8/1)
Micky Arthur (12/1)
Graham Ford (14/1)
Jason Gillespie (16/1)
Paul Collingwood (16/1)
Graham Gooch (40/1)

My 2 penneth for what it is worth on the candidates (the sensible ones) the bookies are on about getting the job -

Giles - all i will say is please God NO!!!!!!
Newell - i think like a few people have said already, a good coach but may struggle because has no international experience
Moody - good choice and i would be happy with him
Kirsten - superb choice and my pick definitely - however i don't think he would take it as he has said he wants to spend 70% of the year at home in SA and is the DD coach in the IPL
Arthur - don't think he would be considered after what happened with AUS
Ford - would be a good choice but he has just signed up with Surrey so think that is what he wants to do etc...
Gillespie - another excellent choice and i think he is a great coach and would get the respect from the players as well
Collingwood - one for the future definitely but i just think it is too early for him
Gooch - just look at our batting in the Ashes!!!

England/ECB got little hope of getting either Gary Kirsten or Stephen Fleming.

Kirsten resigned as Proteas coach due to his young family. Kirsten has also been named Delhi's IPL coach for 2014-16.

Fleming, as mentioned above, earns more in 10 weeks in Madras, then he would coaching anyone else. Fleming's twice rejected the coaching job with the Kiwis.

Spot on there. Don't think England can afford a "big" coach.

Gillespie would be a good choice given his involvement in the county set up

What about John Wright?  He did a great job with India.

Is he looking for gainful employment?

Isn't Dave Whatmore now available...if he can handle Pakistan infighting and motivate them then English should be a walk in the park...

John Wright is currently the head coach of the cash rich Bombay IPL side.

If there's any common sense (left) in the ECB, it can't be Giles. After all, the post test results have been just as bad...

Can't be Giles, he won't be given any time to sort it out by English media. Gary kirsten would be my choice. Think he won't stand for any nonsense
