I fancy a Slazenger V12 5-star. Anyone?
« on: August 02, 2015, 03:30:14 PM »

Hey hey.

So I'm toying with the idea of going a tad retro and picking up a V12 as a back-up bat.
Seen some 5 stars for £100 at a few retailers, but I want to avoid Sports Direct if possible.
If one of our forum sponsors hasn't one in stock, I'm happy to get one direct from Slazenger online.

In the meantime, does anyone have one of these? Are the 5-stars made in Blighty or are they Kashmir willow? Ping any good? Soft/hard pressed?
They seem pretty decent for a hundred nicker.

I would imagine slazenger online is the same as sports direct as both are owned by the same chap.

Well well. I never knew that. That's a shame.  :(

Was wondering if the bats direct from Slaz (or another cricket retailer) would be better than those from Sports Direct.

Sports Direct own Slazenger, all of Slazengers operations (except UK batmaking which i assume is contracted out) are out of the same premises as sports direct.

We have a UK made V5 on sale which will be the last Slazenger product we sell i would imagine.

Thanks for the heads up, Jake.
Sad state of affairs, really. I'm sure most of us batnerds have a soft spot for the glory days of Slazenger, and would like to see 'proper' desirable bats to continue being crafted by a quality British podshaver under the Slazenger brand.

Is the V12 5Star on Sports Direct UK made?

They are made in India has a sticker saying designed in England but for 100 pounds might be worth it

They'd have had a big resurgence if they had made the V12 a true retro bat, re-jigging the original shape.

People have at times drooled over Dynadrives and Magnums, which is all good publicity for the brand.

A remake of the real shape, with the big hump on the back.
One like that with bigger "modern" edges would be ridiculous (and I'd want one!)
