H4L Warbird G2 from Vitas Cricket
« on: November 18, 2015, 01:25:14 AM »

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted something, so here goes! Got this beaut from Jake a while back, when I was contemplating going for a Pro Warbird. (This had originally been snapped up before I could get there) Turned out that the buyer didn't like the handle, and I snapped it up instead! I believe this was one of the first 3 available to the public, and Jake said it picked up the best of the 3, and felt like it performed almost as well as the other 2. (G1 and Pro) I was more than willing to trade off a bit of performance if it meant the pick up was nicer!

It weighs in almost bang on 2.10 with the scuff, and picks up an absolute dream! Performance is fantastic, as you'd expect from H4L, and overall, it feels a better balanced bat than my NV, despite the NV having a higher middle. I think this one was a bit of an odd one, as the blade length is only just over a cm shorter, which doesn't feel too different at all from a regular SH blade. The finishing and stickers are fantastic, I really like how the embossing makes the stickers stand out just that little bit more, and the colourway is definitely my cup of tea! (I also really like the Hellfire colourway) The grains on this bat are predominantly straight and evenly spread, and although there aren't 10+, 7-11 all sapwood is normally the number and looks I like!

Anyways, enough from me, here are some pics!

As you can see, it's actually seen some use! So far, it has been promising, with what feels like a substantial playing area, coupled with a light pick up, which really helps when you really whip your hands through your shot. I've managed to find the middle a couple of times, with one pull shot putting a big grin on my face! I like the subtle duckbill, which is enough to enhance the pick up, but not so much that the toe feels too thin. Coupled with the thick shoulders, even wood distribution throughout the blade and slight counterbalance offered by the tip of the handle, the balance and pick up honestly are superb! (I know I mentioned it before, but it really is one of the biggest selling points of this particular model IMO) The handle shape itself is oval, and maybe a touch on the thinner side of medium, but it feels great in my hands! (Prefer a slightly thinner handle)

Big thanks to Jake, who, as always, was bombarded with many questions from me and answered them swiftly! Would recommend Vitas to anyone looking to make a purchase, Jake is always happy to answer questions and let you make up your own mind!

I have a SH custom bat (smaller blade + long handle) on order with Jake. Kind of similar profile ... How does feel to play ? Does the smaller blade bother you or do you just forget that when u r batting ? How do you hold you bat ? I tend to hold closer to the top end of the handle and smaller blade makes me feel as if i am holding a harrow sized bat.

Hi mate, it feels amazing to play with. The pick up is superb, and the smaller blade doesn't bother me much, if at all! The counterbalanced handle top actually helps me gauge whether or not I'm holding the handle at the right place! I tend to hold the middle of the handle on a regular SH, and since the handle is only 1cm longer, it doesn't make much difference at all! I think Warbirds tend to be more around the 1 inch shorter blade and 1 inch longer handle, this one was just a slight variation, which probably works better for me!

All 3 bats look really nice. Enjoying the pics of all 3 posts.

Cheers Amit! You know what would make it even better? If I did a 4th post of a Tendulkar shaped RS. ;)

It's that time of the year when we're inundated with pictures of the mirrored table / piano and those drapes 😉 Some lovely additions and great write ups Chad! About time to pull the whole collection out......

Actually, now that you mention it, I think almost all my bat photos have been on top of that piano! :-[ Oh gosh, I have so much reducing to do, the collection has exceeded 50! And I have the odd few additions coming too! :(

Cheers bud! They were all great purchases, but I think I'm only realistically use just one from the batch I recently purchased! (This particular Warbird just feels right in the hands)

Figured I'd update this thread, since I've had more time to use this bat. Having had perhaps my best indoor season (in terms of batting) ever, with this trusty blade being my weapon of choice, it's safe to say that I seem to have found a bat which I seem to get on with! I know, indoor cricket is a completely different game from outdoor, but having also used this bat in the nets against the hard ball, I think I can consider this a proper contender for match bat. Yes, you can pull off decent scores with a lot of luck, but in my final 3 innings ever in indoor cricket, I scored over 25 runs in each of them, and ran myself out on the final ball of my final innings, and had been consistent in all of them. I'm not saying the bat has done ALL the work, but it certainly makes a difference when it does most of it, more so when you find that bat which just ticks all the criteria when you use it. I think I've had 3 which have made me feel this way that I've stuck with so far, my L&W Reserve, SS TON LE and now this. Exceptional, just feels like the complete package. Cannot wait for the outdoor season to start!

I'm so glad the guy who bought this initially decided to return it! His loss, my gain. :D Cannot thank Jake enough for getting in touch when this became available again, and cannot give Matt enough praise for the design and crafting of this particular Warbird. :)
