Value of secondhand bats
« on: April 26, 2016, 11:49:03 AM »

I wonder if anyone can help. First though I should like to mention this isn't a post in order to try to sell any bats on here. Anyhow to the point, I have never sold a cricket bat before, preferring to give them away as I am not an eBay user, and find it difficult to ascertain used value when passing on to team mates, therefor find it easier to just pass the bat on, and lets be honest making space in the bat cupboard is reward in itself allowing for the search and acquisition of a replacement.

I have had a busy winter on the acquisition front and hence have decided to get rid of a few within my team. As such I wondered for those with experience of buying and selling used bats, whether there is a rough guide to stick to in terms of a % of original purchase price, and how that changes with age and use. Obviously there with be the odd exception like a scat that won't be within the usual guidelines, but for a normal bat from any of the sponsors, I wonder whether there would be a rough guide, say 75% for unused, 50% for
light use 25% for heavy use.

Worth whatever anyone is prepared to pay, good idea may be to see if any similar bats have been sold on here previously.

There never worth as much as you think.

You get people that will out bats up at what them and other perceive at bargain prices, but they never get sold, and just receive ridicolous others (like 75 delivered for a barely used 360 quid bat etc)

And if they weigh over 2.11, there really ain't point trying to sell them. Lol

For a decent condition bat you could be getting somewhere close to 50-60% of it's cost/current value. It's difficult to sell a used bat for 75% or more, an unused/new one can sell for around 75-85% value. This is what I feel is the usual market around, exceptions here and there. Best way is to check if a similar bat is selling on ebay & how much it would go for in bidding etc.

Whatever you think it's worth divide it by 3, that's the kind of offer you'll receive.

That Said decent money for bats and kit changes hands on here.

I got a Kookaburra Bubble in 2016, I used it a few times in the nets and in a game, but then I sold it, and it went just under (£5) for what I paid for it.

But that's just me I did keep the bat in great condition and there was no scuffs on it.

But if you're givving away a free bat then I'll take one off your hands :)

depends what the original price of the bat was too.  If it was 220 or under, you should look at 2/3rds lightly used.  If it was 330, you'll be lucky to get 1/2.  Fact is if someone wants a premium product, they want it to be definitely right for them, so will buy in th flesh.

And of course if your bat happens to have the name/initials of a pro written on the toe or handle in sharpie it is worth double what you would normally ask 😉

This time of year before the seasons starts you are likely to get more for it than selling it halfway through the season from my experience

over here in Amsterdam we are in the market for free/donated 2nd hand bats
even mildly damaged ones

for our 7 social Lastmanstands teams ... most teams have no cricket equipment as they did not expect to playcricket over here :-)

Have a look on eBay completed listed. Some of the Bats made here in the UK probably go for 2/3rds of their value

I have been keeping a close eye on them as I am trying to get back into Cricket but would rather buy a 2nd hand ready knocked in bat
