More brittle low grade wood than storm damage.

Yes I does look more like brittle wood knocking in should not do this

I would however be looking very close for horizontal lines or creases across the grain

So I've done the same process as all my bats (circa 65) never seen this except a one off which was not pressed correctly...

Anyway, I've had a few comments from batmakers saying it's either a drying issue or storm damage.

Richard at B3 said he thought it was me taking a scuff off incorrectly...i explained this happened in the knocking in process and i was going to use it at a net (wqcked a hammer edge scuff on) then @simonmay5 5old me to send it back..

So another call today, they have sanded the bat and slimmed the handle, bat to be posted tomorrow, will review it and see how it plays, but i do feel this bat could have further issues 😫

It�s a drying/moisture issue. Usually happens in Kashmir willow bit occasionall in EW too.

Keep the handle, it's so hard to find a proper handle these days it'd be a waste to thin it down! Strange though, both B3s I've had I asked for a thick handle and both were distinctly skinny, imo anyway. No accounting for taste I suppose!

I also found the handle on my B3 to be very skinny compared to my other bats

Personally (only my opinion) is that it is storm damage or could be drying issue? There is no way that this particular cleft is structually sound!

And come on....surely nobody told you it was caused by taking the scuff off incorrectly? Seriously?

Hi Richard if B3 here.

The kind of feathering on the face usually only happens as a scuff facing is taken off when removing with the grain rather than across it, hence the question being asked.

As mentioned there were plenty markings on the face and edges of the bat when returned to us. There were some very small cracks also, these were only slight and sanded out. The bat had been pressed and tested the same way as all our bats are, if anyone want to visit and see how this is done please feel free to arrange a visit and we can talk you through what is done at B3.

Following comments the bats was further inspected for any potential storm damage and I can confirm there appears not to be any instances of this.

The bat has been returned, the face sanded, edges re-boned and new scuff sheet applied.

I�m very interested in the comment regarding the bat not being �structurally sound� and would like to know why this would be said. The last thing we at B3 want to do is send out a new bat to a customer which will only come back because of a known issue.

I�d be interested to hear how the bat has been since been returned.
