Do you know how they got the fabric cover off? Sanding or peeling? I've been wanting to refurb some polyarmoured bats but haven't tried getting the facing off yet...

I did it myself. Just peeled it off. GN only applied the labels for me after I did the refurb.

Thought I'd have a go myself so I bought this ancient GN Runmaker from Ebay today for �5. Looked in poor condition, see pics:

Decided I would only strip the cloth from the playing surface and clean up the rest, keeping original stickers. The cloth cover cleaned really well by gently scraping with a Stanley knife

The bat is in great condition underneath :perfect face, no cracks, perfect toe. There are 8-10 well defined grains. Only issue is that the grains are curvy towards the toe, plus a couple of knots. It's cleaned up really well. I might try it at the nets this week. It seems to ping well. See pics below of during and after restoration:

Looks good. Never thought about just taking the facing off the playing area. But good work.
I did a Scoop yesterday that can up well.

Thanks. I just thought the protective sheet has done a great job over the years keeping this bat in good shape so why remove it from the bits where we don't need to see the grains? Also I was really surprised how well it can clean up. I've now added a modern scuff sheet, see https://photos.app.goo.gl/pdtjKTbsEXhRkVXVA but I bet it won't protect as well as the original cloth..

Nice work on the scoop as well. I would have bought that or the Jumbo but couldn't get the link to work. Maybe it was already expired...

Some of these old bats come up beautifully when they are first sanded. But then they don't look quite so good once they are oiled.
