Years ago I was lent one of Neil Radford's bats which had 2 grips ; Worcestershire cricketer for those that don't remember him. Loved how it felt and scored a fifty with it. Have always used 2 grips ever since. On my B3 I've actually got 2 1/2 grips. I'm a small bloke, so not big hands, but like a bigger handle

I like a chunkier grip also, despite not have big hands. I would normally have medium thickness handle and a chunky grip. If I were to get a new custom bat (2.9 - 2.10 with low - mid middle) designed and made, I'm unsure whether to get a thicker handle (more weight) and single grip, or thin/regular handle plus two grips. I guess what I'm wondering is, does a heavier wooden handle actually work well as a counterweight for a bottom heavy bat to give a more balanced pick up (i'm all about the pick up) or does it just give more weight due to more wood in handle which could be put to better use in the blade for striking..... thoughts?

Love stories like this. Something you'll always remember and taking that into your game.

Do people find they have as much control using a thicker handle compared to a thin one?

As long as you're still getting a full wrap of your hand around the handle, which surely you are unless you've really gone crazy with extra grips, you should be getting more 'control' with a thicker handle. The thicker the handle is the harder it will be for it to twist in your hand.

Only thing I've noticed with a really thick handle was losing a bit of the ability to manipulate the ball, opening the face and playing more deft shots was harder.

It’s a trade off I think, larger handles on GM and maybe Warsop I find it easier to play straighter which is an on going method.

Picked up some round handed bats and honestly find them very difficult to use.

I used to play with a West Indian guy who used 5 grips and blasted it everywhere.

When I asked him he said Clive Lloyd used 6 grips…..blimey!

A guy in my team uses a bat which is 3lb. With that, he uses 4 and 1/2 grips. It really is something else. He's an opening batsman too

Is it 3lb before or after the extra grips? If before, that's a lot of weight to be swinging around!

Where do people stand on chunkier handle versus multiple grips? Personally think I prefer the thicker handle rather than a bit more of a spongey double grip. I'm not sure how much difference there is in terms of wood weight left in handle as opposed to two grips. Plus two grips riding up the bat would drive me bonkers ha!

I would definitely prefer a thicker handle with only one grip on, it's a much better feeling than double gripping in my opinion.

I like a thicker handle and I prefer an oval handle. Two grips make it too spongy so I add three layers of kinesio tape stretched back and front on the handle. This thickens and adds a slight oval to the handle.

On the knob I also add two layers of magnetic tape as a counter balance. Works for me and the people I sell bats too like it as they choose to keep it on.

That looks good, I've been using hockey tape for my handle knobs so I'll try some of that magnetic tape out. Thanks for sharing.

Glad to help. Two layers cut to length. For some reason I prefer the cuts to be at 45 degrees. To keep it in place I use K tape and this also reduces the sharpness of the magnetic tape so it is less likely to cut through your grip.

Until today i was using 2 grips, one spiral and the original one that comes with the bat.. .but i bought a new bat and i wasnt comfortable enough with the balance of it and it felt a bit heavy... so i tried it with a 3rd grip and feels quite better.... so at least in this bat will be using 3...

cheers
