Bowling machine knocking in
« on: August 25, 2010, 03:59:45 AM »

hey guys
Just got my new SS platinum reserve of asad.
And i had training straight away so didn't have time to knock it in, for the training i spent the whole hour on a bowling machine would this be adequate knocking in or not?

cheers

The bowling machine uses the hard rubber balls, which are ok but not usually hard enough to help knock the bat in preoperly.
I would still tend to get a knocking in mallet on it for a couple of hours. Then use worn cricket balls in the nets and throw downs!
After all, the SS Platinum Reserve is a quality bat - would you really want to risk shortening it's life-span for the sake of a couple of hours with the mallet? Get knocking fella - better safe than sorry!  8)

One chap in my club once told me that bowling machine balls damage the bats. Is it true?

I think that is very unlikely, unless you are using the wrong sort of balls that a bowling machine will damage a bat. The balls are made of rubber, so should cause less damage than a normal ball. They are likely to make a mess of your bat (see this example: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230515193653&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT) but you can clean the grey stains off, with a damp cloth is you have a scuff sheet or fine sand paper if not.
