Watching other peoples' batting videos make me....?
« on: March 21, 2011, 08:50:31 AM »

Been watching the videos from all the guys who have put theirs up and it has been enlightening in a couple of ways:

  • The standard at which people on the forum play is not really too far from mine.
  • I'm a better batsman than I thought, given that the videos are of batsmen rather than bowlers!

Anyone else been thinking along similar lines?

It's nice to see that some of the batsmen on here have the same problems as I have! I agree on the level of cricket though!

Not about what standard they play mate as rhe most awful of payers can play at a higher level of club cricket. Mainly for a couple of reasons, the club needed to full a cap last minute or simply their face fits. It's surprising how many people have played premier league level because they "fit in"

Surrey Cricket League, Division 3 last season. This season it will be either Kent Cricket League, or South Thames League, dependent on which team I end up getting in to.

Lincolnshire league div 2, a decent enough standard. I'm a bowler though, so I'm used to my batting being on the weak side, even if it is improving! I could probably play a division higher, I don't know, all I know is I'm comfortable with the side I'm in, and they're nice guys! It's good enough for me!

Yeah, I'm a bowler too, so that's why watching "batsmen" is very comforting... ;)

Played for Wimbledon Corinthians last couple of seasons, but occasionally.

Without being disrespectful I've seen videos of players on here who talk themselves up as if they are a couple of steps away from county level or at the very least playing in the highest league form in their area, yet like you Tim their actual level is not too far different to mine, and I'm under no false illusions about my skill level. Makes me confident for the season to come :)

Haha most of us know we are crap compared to the elite, as long as you love the game i think its cool, and dont take yourself too seriously, its good on here as improvements are often obvious and a real change can be seen if adopting the correct advice, as i ofund with some of buzz's advice last year. Its refreshing knowing we are all fairly standard in terms of ability with as few exceptions at both end of the scale! :D

This is worth a read too - not totally relevent to this topic - but I think it is helpful to everyone

http://www.pitchvision.com/perfect-cricket-timing

typically the difference at club level between an average player and a good player is what is in between the ears rather than their technique
