what does it matter what standard people are at though ????????

Though the idea of cricket is enjoyment

I have always thought getting a 100 is a 100 no matter what age or standard
Fair points Dave. I think it was more linked to the hypothetical question about a CBF match, rather than anything to do with whether other people are any good or not!

Just me being insecure about whether I can play cricket!

my feelings on this is , a lot of lower order bats can block out for ages if they wanted to , the problem comes when they have to play some shots I think a lot of batting is to do with shot selection. the other thing is as someone has said already its a lot to do with the mental side of batting, if your batting 9 10 Jack your automatically thinking its ok if i dont score runs im not a batter in this side its the attitude you have to get out of,  I bat 4/5 for my 1st XI but when playing rep stuff i tend to bat 10 or 11 as im an opening bowler to.

It's not so much the mindset, it's more the confidence I feel! I can play plenty of shots in the nets, but when I get into the middle my confidence dries up.

I think it's a good point. I've often found that I come in when batting low down the order and we are chasing a total, so the ability to select your shot and defend the people below you becomes paramount.

I'm a terrible tailender in respect to scoring runs quickly with only a few balls to face. I'd rather build an innings than come in with two overs to go and have a slog. That's just me though.

Same, I've got little power behind me, so I have to try and work it away. Although if someone drops it short I can still put that sort of crap away! When I put my mind to it, or if someone behind the stumps has a dig at me, I can play some decent shots, but it's more timing than brute force, and I can't slog for toffee!

And you often cant,

Lets get back on topic now.

I enjoy watching video's of people batting as I like to see how others approach certain shots and see if it would be any use to my technique,

As for making others feel better in the own ability, That just means to me that you could be slightly insecure in your own ability,

Simmy does not have a perfect technique, But i'd like to see how many runs he scored last season I am guessing a good bunch of runs and at a good rate, As he seems he doesnt wish to hang around,

I feel the need to bring this topic up was rather stupid, As all you were going to do is offend others, Which you either like to do, Or you just didnt think it through well enough.

What is offensive about saying he watched some videos of others and made the realisation he isn't as bad as he thought?

I see this alot people play all the shots in nets but then tense up at the crease which is thankfully a problem I have never suffered from (touch wood)

Plus I am not good just very lucky with a big bat and seems to work as should be taking the next step up this year

I have not said it was offensive, I have raised the point was it really needed to make a topic based on that he isnt as poor as he thought, Surely his average for 2010 season would of illustrated his own level for batting,

And gives us the chance to work out whether we'd be any good as coaches by seeing whether we spot what Buzz does...

Yup, and I admitted that.

I imagine that he's a pain in the butt to bowl at too.

I had no intention of offending anyone, and I'm not sure why it should offend anyone? I was observing that I'm probably not as bad as I thought and I think I'd stand up okay in a CBF team, rather than having a go at anyone or singling them out for criticism. If you look at the leagues in which most of us who have commented play, that seems to be born out.

If I have offended you then I apologise.

Which isn't really indicative as I have too many not outs and not enough runs, and this season, I am mostly learning to bat!  :)

in all formats of the game i probs got about 600-700ish

but your right i dont like hanging around. that is my biggest downfall.  weather i bat 1-6-8 i play the same game

hit the bad ball block the good ball its simple. but my issue is when the field is spread i still "think" i can go over the top id say 90% of time im out caught never bowled or lbw

i dont have a good technique but that doesnt stop me scoring runs. id just like to improve my tecnique as i think it limits my scoring shots. i am not very strong on the leg side for reasons discussed in another topic.
