VAT Exempt? Postage to NZ

Hi mate,

Thought this maybe a question others have, so I thought I'd post it here. As I'm located outside of Europe do I not become automatically exempt from VAT? Tried to website and it not appear to remove???

What is the postage cost of a bat to NZ?

VAT is a UK only sales tax - it is only relevant for purchases made in the uk - the import tax we get is to cover goods purchased overseas. As a non UK resident you are therefore, as Talisman says, Exempt from VAT and can reclaim it on good purchased from UK stores.

How much is VAT? if item is 200 bucks and VAT is 10%, i'll get that item for 200-10%  = 180 + postage. So all the stores has this rule?

currently 20% - but if an item is £200 the calculation you need to do is (£200/120) *100 = £166.67

How did you work out the formula? So how does the formula change for different prices or is it always (Price/120) * 100 ?

Does that mean shipping to Canada will be VAT exempt as well? A friend of mine bought a bat from you and was charged VAT even though it was shipped to Canada. Please clarify.

if you buy something from the UK, you will always pay VAT. its then your job to claim back the VAT if your exempt from paying it. i think being in Canada you would be able to claim it back, if you had all the correct purchase documentations...

If the VAT is 20%,then taking 20% off from 200 would be £40 and the total would be £160, but ur calculation shows £166.67
Can you Plz explain which one is correct?

I have been told that if something is say £220 inc vat then to work out how much of that is vat is just to divide the figure by 6. This means that for your example the price without vat is £166.67.

I've bought of talentcricket.co.uk and cricketdirect.co.uk, both automatically remove VAT.

Calculation should be price/100 * 80 = total.    eg 200/100=2*80=160

Surely its the same as our system here where due to the address being invoiced overseas, no VAT will be payable by the retailer at tax time? The tax is payable by me when importing into the country if over $400NZD.  I'm trying to not get owned by the tax man at both ends if at all!

I bought a GN Legend and learnt that lesson the hard way!
