step by step refurb
« on: March 29, 2011, 08:09:38 AM »

right guys

I've got a bat i wanna whack on the bay of E, and before i stick it on there i was thinking of giving it a bit of a tidy up.....

this is what i was thinking

- remove stickers and anti scuff
- give face a complete sand
-leave the back as this still looks in good nick and has a very smooth waxy feel to it
- apply new stickers (real ones of course)
- apply bees-wax for smooth finish
- put on ebay

suggestions please

Mike

Put the beeswax on before the stickers. You don't have to put it where the stickers are going to be but you don'treally want to get it on the stickers. Other point is that the back of the bat is likely to end up a different colour to the front if you don't sand it.

Before you sand it beexwax if there any stickers residue best thing i have found out.

i clean the blade with beeswax before i sand might sound daft but it tends to take away the scuzz.

1.remove all stickers grips
2.beeswax around the residue areas(scuff sheet,stickers)
3.sand as required (i do 3 different grades then 2 grades wire wool)
4 beeswax up the bat let the beeswax on it for 5 minutes before you start rubbing (give 3 coats over a 2 day period)
5 apply stickers scuff

at number 3 if any cracks or splits open them up and glue.

yeah id always give it a complete sand and then wax all over before stickers. leave for a few hours or a day before you apply the stickers and face tape.

it is used by batmakers when they make a bat to lock in the moister and leave a shinny smooth finish
they can be used after a refurb to make it look new

yes but it has a small amount of linseed oil where as salix bat wax is just solid linseed oil

No, not really. It's mainly used to provide the shiny, smooth finish. It doesn't have the same moisture lock-in capabilities of Bat Wax, which is Linseed based.

from the cricket-hockey site
"Salix Bat Wax is basically linseed oil in a solid state which both seals and nourishes the wood in an easy and controlled application."

I have never used it only beeswax may have to try it soon though

What is the best way to apply wax? Hands, cloth, some other method?
