UK Club in need of player?
« on: March 30, 2011, 09:13:03 AM »

Hi guys, i've got a teammate who wants to come over and play some Club cricket in the UK. He is not looking to be the club pro, he would just like to play some top level club cricket and work to pay his way. He is a top order batsman/wicketkeeper that has played Provincial U/19 cricket. A very talented cricketer!
He has also been working in SA as groundsman so he would be able to help out at the Club with the ground as well as coaching. Does anybody know of any Club who might be interested?

Hi Harry. My experience of playing in the UK has taught me that SA batsmen tend to do better further South where the wickets are a little harder. That being said, this would be his first trip over and i think he would just be thankfull to get Club anywhere! He really just wants to play lots cricket in one of the top leagues. I have asked some of my contacts in the Northern Cricket Union in Northern ireland but they have changed their rules about overseas players. Each club is only allowed to have 1 overseas player and all of the Clubs already has a pro for this season.

have a look at our website...http://marshfieldcricketclub.co.uk/

1st team play in a very competitive league. We're located in the west of England between Bristol and Bath.

Our club secretary would be the man to speak with as we had an Australian player here last summer and work was found for him. Secretary's email is ben@mbakery.co.uk hope that's of assistance.

It might be cutting it a bit fine for visas etc, our club was in a similar situation last year with trying to sort things out for an overseas quite late.

Does he have any form of cricketing CV? Would probably help convince perspective clubs

I suspect if he is a Saffa he will want to be playing at a club near Earlsfield, south west London, which is actually a province of SA. If this is the case, PM me as my club is very close... we have the hardest wicket in town ;)

Thanks Harvey. Will def have a look and hopefully be in contact.

I agree about the late part and i have advised him to start the ball rolling on his side in case he does find a suitable club so that things can proceed as quickly as possible. He does have a CV but it will probably only go out to Clubs who are truly interested.

Yup, hoping that we'll get one. He's a really talented player and a season of cricket in the UK will do him the world of good.
He's also got a technique that would be well suited to score runs in the UK, he can deal with the seaming delivery and plays the ball very late. As a keeper he'll probably also be able to stand up to the stumps for most of the bowlers and in limited over competitions that makes a massive difference in curbing the batsman's scoring areas.
