Coaches
« on: April 01, 2011, 09:31:47 AM »

I think that the view of a cricket coach has moved on from Shane Warne's "a coach is what you use to get to the game"

I want to pay tribute to Andy Flower and especially to Gary Kirsten as to of the best coaches around. I also want to mention Tom Moody who is also a brilliant coach...

Anyone know of any up and coming coaches at county/state/franchise level who might be able to be bracketed as the new Bob Woolmer/Duncan Fletcher one day?

Steve Rhodes somehow managed to get a good season out of Worcester by the end of the year. I went to see a match early on and it was looking pretty hopeless, so I think he much have something about him.

Waqar is doing well with Pakistan too. As is Alan Butcher with Zimbabwe (he was excellent at Surrey too)

Who is coaching afganistan?

I am still to be convinced by Chris Adams at Surrey who spends too much time talking to Sky Sports. Any Lancs fans got a view on Peter Moores?!
What about Nots fans?

On a serious note then, Giles White at Hampshire (my team) has been expectional. Winning the T20 was a great coup for us, but the more impressive thing is who we are bringing through. Yes Jimmy Adams has been going a while as has Carberry, but some of the younger players such as Danny Briggs, Jamie Vince and Michael Bates have got a great future. Watch Vince, it's like a young Michael Vaughan.

Having Lumb and a fitter Simon Jones is not the worst thing either.

Massive waste of money for a County that's completely skint, him and Watkinson. Championship relegation looms.

Bit controversial, but Mick Newell has had a blinder at Notts...

A few people round the scene don't like him for one reason or another Buzz! Personally, I think he's an outstanding coach, the lads love him, and he's bringing home the bacon. Works for me.

Also, I'd kill for a bacon sandwich right about now...

Buzz, you cut me deep. I have to wait until Sunday for my aforementioned bacon. However, it will be with sausages, poached eggs and toast in the ultimate fry-up!

Andy Hurry has done quite well at Somerset, runners up in every competition is a good effort. Some counties prioritise some competitions over others. But andy hurry has got a competitive team in all formats. Also, bringing Jos Buttler in was a good move!

It was Kabir Khan till recently but I believe he left after some selection disputes.

Butcher was awful as a coach at Surrey imo, Surrey were terrible under him! I know a few of the lads in the set up who disliked him, and I myself went on tour with him to Sri Lanka with Surrey YC's and wasn't impressed. He had his two blue-eyed boys and wouldn't give anyone else the time of iday. He was also a really good confidence-knocker!

But if he is doing well with Zim, then good for them.
