Batting Inners, is it wise to wear them ?
« on: April 07, 2011, 05:37:52 AM »

When I first started playing cricket in 2009 I didn't wear inners as I didn't like them but then when I read on the forum that wearing inners you can prolong your gloves life I started to wear them and initially they didn't feel great but I kept using them so with time I got used to them.

So just few minutes ago (perhaps for last 20 minutes) I was playing around with my bats and I wore gloves without inners so I was getting good feel on my hands and good grip too. When holding the bat it didn't feel very thick but I must say I got more feel of handle and it basically glued well with my hands.

Personally I am a big fan of pittard palm as I love the feel of them and I find them very soft. I get the best feel of the pittard palm when I am not wearing inners and I get maximum softness when I wearing the inners, so which one is important?

So my questions are;

Does it really make a big difference in gloves life if you wear inners and if you don't ?
Generally speaking is it wise to wear batting inners ?

Any help and suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Cheers!

some types of pittards are meant to be water/sweat resistant. this way you can wear the batting gloves without inners and not worry about the life. it is more important to get the feel of the bat. so if you can get a better feel without inners, then you should definitely opt for that.

Do you know which pittards palms are those?

I once again tried it and again I got better grip and feel of palm without inners while with inners I found it to be very thick and my palm would be moving as I play a stroke and when I grip the bat.

Pittards leather is all treated for water resistance and also ceramic coated for longer life.

Batting inners are a throw back to ye olden days when people only had access to one set of gloves for their entire life, not the one set per week disposable society we now live in. I simply don't see the need for them as they cannot add anything to batting, an extra layer will diminish the feel and control needed.

Cheer guys much appreciated, thanks for your time!

I think I will not wear batting inners from now on as the feel is not the one you get without inners.

If you do wear your gloves aout due to not wearing inners.... it's just a great excuse to buy new gloves!

Has anyone tried fingerless inners?

http://www.gm-cricket.com/range/inners/fingerless-inners.aspx

Maybe with these you can get the best of both worlds? Feel of the handle, control and protection?

Yes I have a pair of fingerless inners I bought of Richie a while back, I think they're that pair. I much prefer them to the full inners I used to wear :)

Just a case of preference I think.

From my view the inners do prolong the life of the gloves. They are also useful in absorbing sweat thus aiding grip.

The longer youre innings the more likely your glove palms will start slipping off the grip. Inners helps to keep sweat off the glove palms.

Perhaps it would be wise to have a pair of innings in your bag for if you got to an advanced stage in your innings and were sweating too much, thus losing grip. I suppose by then the damage may have been done :(

I always wear fingerless inners. I've got a couple pairs and rather than having to change gloves in an innings I simply change inners if needed at a drinks break

Easier just to keep a spare pair of gloves I'd think.
