It's a tough one to be fair, I would choose Gilly as I believe in an all-time world XI I believe he would add more to a team with this exploits opening the innings.

Personally I'd go with gilly, dhoni's captaincy is very good but the question is merely whos better keeper-batsman. I think gilly is more likely to take the game away especially in tests imo

imagine them both in the same side in one dayers the perfect opener and perfect finisher 2 very good cricketers indeed

Gilly changed the way test are played for sure and agree in tests changed the way in a hour or two

When Dhoni first came on to the world stage, he was so destructive and was more dangerous than Gilly. These days Dhoni is far more sedate.

Dhoni would get into a World XI with his batting alone.

one day side yes

test side no

The thing with Gilly like Warne changed the way people played cricket.

Dhoni is quality no doubt at what he does and has been disruptive but Gilly did change many things and was a innovator

Jeet, im sorry, i really do value the decent cricketing debates on the forum aside from "my bat has 67 grains" but do you genuinely believe that Dhoni would get in a World XI as a batsmen? Seriously?

There not a better finisher in world cricket than Dhoni in one day cricket

Maybe only Bevan is his equal i think in one day cricket

All time? Les Ames, or Godfrey Evans, depending on if you want batsman-keeper or keeper who can bat. No-one else comes close in my opinion.

I'm talking about ODI team not Test cricket.

Dhoni averages 49 and has a S/R of 90, not many better around in the history of the game

Jeet mate, give it a break.

Gilly opened the batting and dominated, whereas Dhoni comes in 4,5,6,7 and has a slog to get his 20-40 not out, which makes his average better. When you open in a ODI, it is very hard to bat through an innings.
