How Odd
« on: April 14, 2011, 08:41:55 PM »

Had a net session tonight and frankly I was awful with the bat. I took 2 bats into the net:-

1. A £250 Kippax custom Wavex
2. A £30 adidias club (rrp £115)

Both around 2'7-2'9 in weight. I used the Kippax for most of the time and it felt terrible, I timed one ball all session and the rest felt "tinny". Used the addidas and only mistimed 1 ball with it. I had alot of interesed in the adidas as well. It went really well. The kippax does have a middle as my mate practised hitting a ball and it went a long way. However, in my initial test it's been destroyed by an ugly indian low grade bat. Early days and a few more net sessions will reveal all, but I'm thinking of using the adidas saturday.

Pics here, kippax custom:-

Adidas:-

Any ideas? Only thing I can think is that after doing 2 hours knocking on the Kippax only, I took both bats to Kippax for knocking in and somehow I've lost the ping from the Kippax in the process.

What's odd Nick

Asians make a good a bat as the english some of the time.

When did the price of a bat determine the quality.

Maybe the Kippax will need to time to play itself in. I'm told it's true of themost expensive best bats.

I would generalize from experience that English bats take more time to play in compared to Asian bats.

I would agree my ss went like a bullet from ball one were as Jon says my more expensive bats will take a bit of time but the Instinct i used went well straight away.

Bats are all different i guess no matter who made them and there grades..

I have an Asian bat already which goes well (not without a few problems) and it might well be a few more net sessions will get the kippax going.

I was picking up some GM's in JJB and noticed it knocked down to £30. Had a little play and it picked up well - around 2'6/7 I think. Though its got a few specks, the 7 grains are reasonably straight and evenly spaced. Had an offer of £50 for it tonight, but after middling the first ball with it, I'll keep it I think  :D

Had a few more net sessions and concluded that adidas is decent bat but not really got the punch I've had in other bats. The handle is also too thick for my chubby little fingers liking. It's part of the price you pay for the light pickup and weight, not a big middle. The Kippax hasn't really got any better, a middle exists but it's very rare I find it. Tried it in a game today and had to swap bats after not timing 30 odd deliveries, very disappointing and made worse by timing things alot better with my old bat. I've emailed Chris at Kippax to see if he has any ideas, it seemed like a good stick but I'm wondering whether the 2 hours of knocking in followed by Kippax finishing it off on their machines has hardened the bat and taken all the spring out.
