Honestly i know where you are coming from. Timed games with points systems in my eyes are frustrating. Our whole league setup used to be timed games with insentive bonus points, but now we have half a season with a 50/50 format and the other half is timed.
We played a game about 3-4 years ago against a local side in a timed format. They got 180-5 from about 70 overs, and batted us out of the game and cost us promotion. We have always had one of the best bowling attacks in the whole leagues, but you still got to get people out, captain has got to have some savvy to set traps and decent fields.
Its ok to moan at other teams that probably once in a blue moon do shut up shop, but it would be different scenario if it was week in week out. If the team did do this all the time, they would be in a lower division as they would not be picking up bonus points.
It's not a timed format in our league, it's a 100 over match, 53 overs for the first batting side and 47 for the second batting side, if first side doesn't use up their overs ie all out or declare then second side to bat gets the extra overs.
That sounds like a very frustrating and boring game! I see where you are coming from, there was a decent amount of collective wisdom on the pitch, one of the guys has played premier league and knows a few tricks,we might have fared a little better if our captain had explored more bowling options tbh, he went from saying at one point that he might just try everyone and see what happens, telling me i would get a bowl, even asking if i bowled spin! (seamer lol) to 5 overs later saying i was in the side to bat and i wasn't going to bowl.
I think that the team in question may do this fairly frequently, they have played 4, drawn 3 and lost 1. They are currently 12th out of 20. Although i can't say for sure as this is my first season in the ones and in current form i wont be there much longer!
