We got 247-9 i think yesterday, i got 3, lbw off an inside edge. Opposition went for the draw after 10 or 12 overs at about 30-2 which really p****d us off. We gave them 30/40 trying to buy a wicket at one point and they finished on 208ish for 5 after we got a wicket in the last over.
Joke is they got more points than us too. (No Swearing Please) s

Was a draw and the other side took more wickets. Stuff like that makes me glad there are no draws in our league

how does that points system work?

thecord pretty much got it spot on, game was a draw, both teams got max batting points, and the oppo took more wickets.

It was a joke tbh, wouldn't have minded if they had actually gone for the win, the track was an absolute road and we should have got more than we did after being 150ish for 2, then 160ish for 4 (me an number 5's fault :/), if they had ended on 190+ for 8 or even won! then at least they would have tried to win rather than being a bunch of t**** and wasting our afternoon

I think there should be some bonus points available for setting and defending a total, or at least the "losing" team should not be able to obtain more points than the "winning" team, if you can't win the game why should you do better out of it than the other team?

RANT ALERT:

My 2011 season is not going well.

In 2010 I started the season in the 1st XI having had a pretty good 2009. I was shocking though. Didn't net as much as I should have, mind was on other things, form was consequently shocking. Got dropped to the 2's midway through the season.

In the 2's I either batted 4, or if one of our openers was unavailable (which ended up being fairly often) I opened. I did pretty well. In half a season I scored just under 300 runs averaging just under 30, and missed out on winning our 2nd XI batting averages by a whisker. I also started bowling in the 2's towards the end of the season, ending up with 10 wickets at 10 from 4 spells.

So, this year, aim was to try and break back in to the 1st XI (I feel there are at least 2 guys in our 1's who I should be good enough to replace), and also keep developing my bowling, looking to be a genuine all rounder in the 2's, and hopefully be able to do a job in the 1's if needed.

I've started this year in the 2's, as expected, under a new skipper. So far I've played 4 fixtures. Mostly I've been asked to bat at 6. Didn't bat in our first game, 32* from 20 balls in the 2nd game having only gotten to the crease with half a dozen overs left, 34 from 40 balls in 3rd match, again, batting with less than 10 overs left, I was out with 2 overs to go, and then yesterday 6 from 4 balls (batting 8 this time).

I've only bowled 4 overs, which were in a cup game, didn't think I bowled particularly badly, but got hit for 30 runs, by a very aggressive batsman (all bowlers that bowled at him went for tap too)

So basically, my season is feeling like a complete non-event. Hitting the ball really well,  but don't fell like I'm being given a fair chance by the skipper, who off the back of 4 overs on a good deck, seems to have completely lost faith in my bowling (yesterday he only used 3 bowlers, when a 4th was obviously needed)

The batting is a tough one, as the 5 guys batting ahead of me have all scored runs, so it's hard to argue that any of them are batting too high - I just feel hard done by as based on last years performances I felt I deserved to be ahead of them in the pecking order when the season started.

RANT OVER

Your captain is a dick. Do you have a third team? If so, tell him next week you want to play 3's if he won't give you a proper go. Too many people be "nice" and take it, instead of giving the captain a straight talk (which he may appreciate). I spent a good part of my career being underused as a batsman and batting 8-9 averaging 20 odd. Reformed our third XI and in my first season averaged 70 batting 3/4. Don't waste your time.

Age old comment we have always been told. ''got to be good enough to bowl a team out''
I know it is frustrating, our team has been there many times.

Burdy the funny thing is at the moment we have for our division a very strong seam attack, strong enough to compensate for lack of a spinner(until his exams are over) and strong enough to bowl a team out if the batsmen actually try and chase the target for even only 20 overs.
If the wicket was a belter to begin with and does even less as the game goes on then it becomes extremely hard to get wickets if the top order are the ones who start to shut up shop!
It's not as if we had them 6 down after 20 overs and couldn't finish off the tail, been there a few times as well last season with the twos so know what thats like!
Their competent batsmen were just leaving anything they could and playing defensively with a straight bat at 99% of anything they had to play.

Honestly i know where you are coming from. Timed games with points systems in my eyes are frustrating. Our whole league setup used to be timed games with insentive bonus points, but now we have half a season with a 50/50 format and the other half is timed.

We played a game about 3-4 years ago against a local side in a timed format. They got 180-5 from about 70 overs, and batted us out of the game and cost us promotion. We have always had one of the best bowling attacks in the whole leagues, but you still got to get people out, captain has got to have some savvy to set traps and decent fields.

Its ok to moan at other teams that probably once in a blue moon do shut up shop, but it would be different scenario if it was week in week out. If the team did do this all the time, they would be in a lower division as they would not be picking up bonus points.

Played in perhaps my most embarassing game of cricket yesterday.

Played on a pitch the likes I have never played on before (it wasn't wet - much the opposite). Good length balls (ie - regular front foot defence length or driveable) where either rearing up and going past the batsmens nose, or scooting along the ground. The opposition batted very well for the conditions (was their home pitch) and made 170 after being 5/30 odd. Then the embarassing part......we were rolled for 18.....yep 18 big ones!!!! Managed a 4 through midwicket myself before going for a straight drive that went under the bat (rolled!) and took out my off peg.

Pretty frustrated so far this season....couple of 40's, a 20 and now a 4....hopefully a decent innings is just around the corner!

It's not a timed format in our league, it's a 100 over match, 53 overs for the first batting side and 47 for the second batting side, if first side doesn't use up their overs ie all out or declare then second side to bat gets the extra overs.

That sounds like a very frustrating and boring game! I see where you are coming from, there was a decent amount of collective wisdom on the pitch, one of the guys has played premier league and knows a few tricks,we might have fared a little better if our captain had explored more bowling options tbh, he went from saying at one point that he might just try everyone and see what happens, telling me i would get a bowl, even asking if i bowled spin! (seamer lol) to 5 overs later saying i was in the side to bat and i wasn't going to bowl.

I think that the team in question may do this fairly frequently, they have played 4, drawn 3 and lost 1. They are currently 12th out of 20. Although i can't say for sure as this is my first season in the ones and in current form i wont be there much longer!

Wasnt really having a great season until the last week, in which i have scored 61 off 25 balls opeing, and then 75 off 61 balls yesterday, batting at 7 and putting on 128 for the 7th wicket. We were 98-5 when i got in, 98-6 when our number 6 got out next ball (they lad before got caught on the boundry)! We eventually got 244-7 off 35.
We then bowled thrm out for 150, thry were at one stage 80-1 off 9. I took 1-9 off 4 overs. And on tuesday i took 2-21 off 3. So im pretty happy with how this weeks gone.

Could have been worse. A team in our league got bowled out for 9 a couple of weeks ago, and 5 of those runs were extras!

11 yesteday going nicely first few overs had a dart as thought would clear infield but extra got round just in time to catch then side collapsed to 108 all out think I may need to bat more like last weeks (6 runs in 20 overs) to bat through our innings

Hit 91 off 63 after coming in at 7 with us 35-5. Recovered to 215ao and bowled the oppo out for 137. Were pretty chirpy for a while until I put their opener into the trees off of consecutive balls

Very strange game imho:-

1. If you score 61 in 25, then why do you bat 7 the following week - has your captain had a common sense bypass?
2. What kind of attack ships 244 off 35 having had the oppo 98-6
3. I can only assume 80-1 off 9 meant they had 3 batsman lol!
