As the title says what would you guys suggest after having had a 11 year break from the game, had my 1st net last night and yeah it was less than stellar.

Any tips or ideas to speed up the process of get my timing/rhythm etc right again and any useful tips for getting my body use to the game again?

just try to involve yourself as much as possible. play/watch as often as possible, also, socialising with team mates is good as it helps you relax more whilst playing cricket with them.

dont expect too much too soon and just let yourself glide back in naturally, who knows it could only take 2 or 3 net sessions!

we just had a lad come back last year that had been out for about 6 years. after 2 net sessions he was back up to how it was before. if it doesnt click straight away just keep putting in the work

I agree, the more you practice the better you will get and the quicker you will get back into the swing of things. Also make sure your bat has not had an 11 year break too, it may not help you and so I'd recommend you have a think about a new one.

Thanks for all the tips so far guys, yeah I guess it will come with time and more practise.
Are there any drills that you guys can think of ie bowling, batting that you guys do often ? On the bat front all my kit is lying in SA , playing this year was kinda spur of the moment. So thanks to this forum I have two bats on the way much to the dismay of my wife!

There are a million and one drills you can do to help you get back into the swing of things but in reality until you can identify the precise areas of your game that need improvement it's difficult to suggest any single one! I wouldn't overcomplicate things, go out, have fun, stay relaxed and see how you get on. It's only after a few games and/or net sessions that you'll be able to identify any issues you have. Try and bat a lot and bowl a lot is probably a good start!!!

This is my first full season for a number of years, have been netting as much as I can during the winter and already feel back into it again. Just a case of relaxing and enjoying yourself, which is what it's all about. Set yourself a realistic target and build on that.

I also had a number of years out of the game. I enjoy it now more then I did in my youth, I understand the game a lot better and its nice not having the pressure you put on your self as I did in my youth. Two years back into it now and I feel I'm technically better then I ever was.

one thing i would consider doing is possibly do lots of shadow shots and stuff with a bat, just till it starts to feel normal again, maybe same with practicing bowling actions etc
