pre match prep........
« on: May 04, 2011, 08:13:00 AM »

what do you guys do before the game as a warm up? club does fielding drills and the bowlers bowl at a stump but i feel we dont do anything that helps the batsman, i try and get one of the younger lads to give me a few throwdowns but i feel a net beforehand would be better....

what do you guys do?

We often have a net before a home game.

And then we do the same as you. Normally a bit of footy before a warm up, then throw downs and bowling at a stump.

I had one skipper when I was younger who thought that close catching was good for batsmen - helps you get your eye in

Few throw downs for batsmen

Few catches and a bowl to the keeper on an end wicket but not too much we save energy for the match

But played against a side Sunday that did :

2 laps of the pitch
10 mins of stretching
5 mins close catching
5 mins distance catching
5 mins throwing at a stump
Then some bowling and throw downs

It was exhausting watching them

we usually a. kick a football about b. play grubbers with a rugby ball...

or C. Murder ball that we invented lol

involves two teams a rugby ball and two nerf vortex things

team kicks the ball high up in the air for the other team to catch. but the trick is you have to catch the ball with out being tagged with the vortex's if u drop the ball u lose a point lol. other members of your team have to block and deffend the vortex's from hitting you lol can be dangerous if u take one in face lol

Pin always goes down well, get a squash ball and a tennis racket, pair of gloves, wicket keeper, and a few mates to stand round the bat in a net. A bloke blasts the ball down with the racket and you have to defend it without edging, getting caught or bowled. If you get hit, you get a P then I then N if you get that its your round afterwards

A really good sh*t and a couple of mini-battenburgs usually does the trick.

agree with the sh*t, I'll do several depending on the quality of the oppo.

It's always handy to bowl close to the square at a stump and do it from both ends. Gives the bowlers an idea of the conditions and any slopes they may have to bowl up or down. We will always do some close catching but less high stuff as that's when you tend to get the hand/finger injuries. We tend to mix it up depending on what we felt we did poorly last week. 20 mins for the lot is enough to get people warmed up and ready.

btw - none of the above applies on Sundays.

I get down early if it's a home game. Tend to have a couple of balls in the nets, though I don't bowl - just to warm up the shoulder. Then go on the catching net for about 50 attempts at catches, look for about 40 reasonable takes before I stop.
I like to have some throwdowns with a middling bat or do team catching to get my eye in.
I don't do anything else before I go out though, I then relax and have something to eat and drink before starting.. :)

Turn up, put the sight screens out, get the youngens to do flags and poop patrol.
Have a light jog with ALL of squad, stretches and general talk.
Top 3 have a light net with bowling machine or throw downs.
Wait for toss, if ended up in the dirt, the bowlers and keeper go off, slips and fielders go off and get hands warmed up and eye in for the ball.
And fit in a cheeky cig.
Gone of the old days of someone smashing some balls in the air for people to catch from 50 yards
