an antiscuff sheet will seal in the moisture in the willow which will protect the longevity of the bat as well as protect the bat from a certain amount of "bruising" of the face. It might, very marginally, take away a little of the performance, but - like a toe guard - the upside massively outways the downside.
I am not really sure about the benefits of Fiberglas tape - it might superficially protect a crack in the bat, but it won't make a massive difference, I don't think - happy to be told I am wrong on this!!
