New poster here but been reading for a while, very interested in all the different brands of bats out there.

I have been a fan of Gray Nic (Aust) custom made bats for a long time, I only use bats around 2lb 6-7oz and they seem able to make a bat at that weight but maintain a large profile. Is there a custom maker out there that does lighter weight bats better than others?  I like the look of both redback and black cat, but wonder if they could produce a decent profile at these weights. If any of you guy's have experience with a bat at these specs, or even if the makers themselves would like to comment, it would be greatly appreciated.

black cat are very good bats, never heard of a bad one and i have a very light one that is pretty massive for the weight.... have a look for yourself

We have some bats in stock that are 2.7oz finished weight at the moment, can get them out to you before the weekends games.

Bats at those weights tend to have a fair bit of concaving in order to get the weight down, either that or are made from light clefts which arent common place and usually reserved for pro players

I am in Australia mate, I was just looking out for something different. I understand about the concaving and how rare the light clefts are, I have tried many many bats but can just never go past the legend bats from GN, still I am always on the hunt for that perfect bat. I am interested in your helmets though, I will drop you an email shortly with a few questions.

Any legend on the shelf wont be less than 2.10 really. Obviously if you get it custom made by Stu it will be lighter, but wont be the same specs as a legend.

He has made mine for about 6 years and the profile has always been massive, exactly the same as the legend shape, it is his players shape. Disagree about the 2.10 thing also, most will be around the 2lb 8-9oz mark, I have worked and still do occasionally in the industry and have seen many. Do you know Stu?  Great guy, great maker, I have had the pleasure of watching him work on the couple of occasions I have visited GN in melbourne.

Im honestly close to 99% there arent really any at 2.8.... Maybe 1 in a batch. Remember whatever it sais on the little Gray nicolls weight sticker on the top of the bat you can add at least 2 ounces and at best they all say 2.8 or 2.9. Im not sure why that is, probably because its done before stickers/grip/anything else but if you put them on the scales its 2.10 minimum.

To be honest the legend range probably isnt as good as it should be. The bats arent really weighted that well. But there is a big difference to if STu makes it to ur specifications or you get one from a batch at a shop. Obviously if you go through 10 or so you might find the lightest one, but in general there a bit heavier.

When I was at GCCC I asked about this as the GN Players I bought said 2lb7.5oz, but when I weighed it, it was 2lb10 exactly. GCCC then told me that Gray Nicolls weigh their bats at a natural weight, so the weight on the handle was the wieght without stickers or grips.

The bat now weighs 2lb8.9oz with only one grip, so it's relatively light.

I agree, it's annoying because you buy the bat without stickers and a grip. Although I wouldn't have known it was heavier than 2lb7.5oz as it picks up really well.

Ought to fall under the trade description act. You bat with a bat stickered and gripped, selling it as a lesser weight is fraud in my book. Strong I know but if I buy a bat that says 2'7 it should be 2'7.
