GN Oblivion
« on: May 12, 2011, 12:37:39 PM »

This sunny lunchtime, I was wondering around a well know, never knowingly undersold department store not a million miles from our corporate headquarters (my office!) and thought - ooooh this looks nice for £60

It had decent edges, a little too much concaving but decent spine height. The pick up, however was not great.
This was, i thought interesting. It was wrapped in plastic which typically means the bat is made in India - i also noted that it didn't have the new gn stamp on the edge.

And then I saw the small print (at least it was there!) - this is in fact Kashmir willow.

Two things to say - firstly watch out if you are buying an oblivion on ebay - as someone could easily remove a few stickers and say it is English willow and secondly... this is decent looking kashmir!

I have not idea how good the "ping" was.

I would guess this has been mis-graded or something, looks like EW to me! Saw a few english willow Woodworm Pioneer junior bats before when they were all meant to be KW.

and applied the Lion revolution stickers......

Careful these aren't for general consumption due to their magic properties.

Be careful as I saw a few Kashmir bats last week that looked good enough to be passed off as English, and this happens, even here on the forum, some people do this for a living. Of course the fact that you can buy these for sub £10 should make you aware of the rip off and deception involved but looks wise a lot of effort is being made to pick out the best willow as it is being upgraded to English grade 2.

Might be better to pm members who are want to know names. I don't think public forums are the place without proof.

Too true, I have a kashmir bat here that has 32 blemish free grains! Could easily be sold as english willow.
