My mate used this in his dissertation, as the perfect example of a cover drive. Perfect shot

I grew up watching Gloucs ruin everyone in one day cricket. Barnett, Russell, Harvey, Alleyne, Snape, Hancock etc

Saeed Anwar / Ponting for me. For me a lack of shots does not constitute a good technique.

Misbah Ul Haq
Slightly leftfield for a technical guru!

for out and out great to watch add in - Mosin Khan or David Gower - but neither were technical guru's.

The problem with Ponting is that although his is a great player - techincally he isn't that great - he plants his front foot horribly and is a happy hooker to the short ball. Now I realise that has bought him about a million international runs, but my point is if you are looking at the MCC coaching book, Kallis, Ramps, Bell would be examples used first.

If you want an example of how to be a modern day international batsman then Ponting is pretty much second on the list (after a short ar5e Indian bloke ;))

Kevin Pieterson and Andrew Flintoff were brilliant to watch at their prime, they both mixed up slogging the ball over the pavilion with good defensive shot play and added lots of flair (Such as reverse sweep 6)

No mention of Brian Lara yet? He's got to be up there!

Allan Border? Martin Crowe? They deserve a mention.....both very, very good technically.

Mind you technique doesn't score you runs, it does help but look at the likes of Sir Viv, Greenidge, Haynes, Thorpe, G Smith etc, none have textbook techniques and yet all score/scored heavily....Smith's technique truly sucks but it seems to work for him..... :)

Yeah, I think that in terms of pure defensive ability, Michael Hussey looks like the one guy who can put the brick wall up and just be unmovable, due to his sound defense.
