Your First Bat?
« on: May 15, 2011, 09:58:22 PM »

Saw this on another forum, so thought I would post it on here...

What was your first bat? Still have it? Did you love it?

This is my first bat, size 5 Slazenger V500 5Star Pro-Tech. It's seen better days, had it for over 10 years now. When I got it I loved it, however there were still better bats out there as this didn't 'ping' like other bats my friends had. It didn't matter as much as I was more of a bowler back then but I still used to open the batting as well.

Just used for a bit of garden/french cricket every now and again, I should really give it a bit of a clean up really. It used to have one of those meshed sheets over it so I've never seen the actual grains of the bat.

Harrow GM Purist 606 a la Michael Vaughan. It's about a metre from me as I am now. Will update pictures tomorrow.

Yea that's the one, they had Tresco as their main sponsored player at the time and Chris Broad was heavily involved and actually showed me round their showroom. Shame they didn't have much success as it was nice to have a company like that in the Bristol area.

The first cricket box was used in 1874.  The first cricket helmet was introduced in 1974. So, it took 100 years for men to twig that their brains were also worth protecting.

GN Powerspot Tufcoat that didn't have a middle. Had it for a season, and replaced it with a Slaz V12 Panther Polyarmour.

The first bat I ever used in a game was a ss turbo 333 Harrow  which felt really heavy at the time...

My first bat was a Slaz V100 armourtec size 6

Think it was a GN Powerspot, Slater signature or something. Trusty old Kashmir Willow!

County Ultimate destroyer. Absolutely amazing for the cost of it. Was great until someone at school borrowed it and managed to hit the top of the metal spring stumps putting a massive dink in the middle. Made a good beach cricket bat afterwards though.

Phoenix Platinum Harrow, was a lovely bat until it felt apart into pieces, but taped it back up (mummified it) with electrical tape, it now feels like it weighs 3lb 5 and is in the shed!
