Best Oakleys
« on: May 20, 2011, 09:39:09 AM »

Morning chaps,

Looking for some advice and pointers on getting myself some Oakleys. Got around £150 to spend so reckon that should get me a good pair. I know nothing of lenses though, or what are considered to be decent for cricket. Not a fan of the space cadet style, more the Radar Paths I think.

I will be keeping in them as well as sunning myself on the veranda so should I be looking for a certain style? Have heard about polarized etc

Cheers

I'd definitely go polarized if you can reducing glare and reflection helps especially when catching.

Most of their lenses are relatively good although I tend to go for something dark blue or reddish gold for cricket as I don't want it to be to dark.

Just Got a pair of radar paths 09-674 with the black iridium polarized lens for my birthday. Polarised is a must, takes the glare etc away. These are also surprisingly light to look thru. I was gonna get some g26 lens as well but I don't think I'll need them.

dbow - do you have a link to the ones you have picked up mate, or can I just search for that model number.

My old man has some rayban blue polarized (plays golf and drives for a living) and they were really nice

ive done a bit of research on these as i do want a pair, just havent made the plunge yet.....

id go for jawbones and try and go for the g26/ vr 28 lenses as apparently they highlight red more so should be good for picking the ball up

would be interested ti see how you get on and what you think when you do get a pair

It's the jawbone ones I am not sure about, I like the traditional looking Radars etc. Just not a bloody clue what to get. I will go with the polar lenses though.

Anyone know a good place to buy them?

I was gonna get mine from cyclestore.co.uk. They were around the £150 in the sale. Day b4 I ordered them they went back to £175. I managed to get mine from shop4shades on eBay. They were graded 'a' stock as they have a 2mm mark on the top of frame. Won them in the auction for £115. I have my 1st game Saturday and I'll be keeping as well. I honestly don't think I'll need to get any other lenses tho for over cast conditions.

Can actually custom build them here, although they don't seem to offer blue polar lenses

VR28 are amongst the best cricket lenses as they make red objects stand out against green backgrounds.

I also have Fire Iridium lenses for really bright sunny days, and Cinnamon lenses for overcast conditions.

The VR28 are a good all round lense though.

In terms of frames and lense shapes, it's a case of personal preference. You really need to try them on and see what fits best and suits the shape of your face.

By example, I have M Frames - I think the sweep lenses look best, but tried tham on and realised they didn't fit my face properly, so got heater lenses instead

That seems pretty good, I just cant find some that offer different lense options. Who thought buying some bloody sunglasses were so hard!

I have some prescription Flak Jacket XJR ( Or what ever the three letters are) and they were ridiculously expensive but worth it. I got polarised dark iridium I think, but some games I struggle to pick the ball up against hills or dark buildings.

I have Radar path with grey lenses. They are awesome for the 'base' model but agree that with the extra money, better lenses are  worthwhile investment.
