- Modified versions of pairs/continuous cricket (double chance - if they miss they get to hit a ball off a tee, but only through the off side - have very few fielders on leg side)
- Might not have enough for diamond cricket....
- Tee line cricket - set up 'zones' where the kids have to try and hit the ball off a tee past the fielders into certain zones...the more fielders they get through the more points they score. Can make the areas bigger or smaller based on how many players you have.
- Basic catching games: Players in semi circle, coach throws ball to them. If they drop it they sit down (have a second life though - if they catch it while sitting get another chance standing) slowly make it harder by making them clap a number of times etc.
- "relay" type fielding games - have group split into two even groups, have two lines (3 tees with balls spaced out over a distance for each line, set of stumps at the end) teams compete by throwing balls to player at stumps, gathering all the balls once thrown, replacing them on the markers then next player goes. Key thing is accurate throws not speed - inaccuracy means balls need to be fetched which slows entire team down.
- Bowling: target bowling. Again, split players into pairs. Teach them fundamentals of bowling (high front arm etc). Don't allown a run up. Have them bowling at stumps in pairs, then make it a comp, whatever pair hits stumps 5 x first or stuff like that.
If anything doesn't make sense I can clarify more. Hard age group to coach when most struggle to perform actions when told. I like to make it fun, teaching them the basics and bringing out their competitive sides.
